Quite possibly the last Barberini produced, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Cuvee Barberini is largely Roussanne, barrel-fermented in new oak. Grilled, honeyed pineapple notes dominate the nose, while the full-bodied palate is rich, creamy, lushly tropical in nature, then finishes long and a touch warm. It's hugely expressive and hedonistic, a joy to drink if you enjoy oaky opulence. ... More details

Stacks of candied oranges and smoke on the nose and very salty on the full-bodied, richly textured palate, this is a dramatic white Chateauneuf. Then comes a fantastic mineral freshness in the long, bright and salty finish. A cuvee of 70% roussanne and 30% clairette that is matured in oak, 70% of which is new. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Orange blossom, honeyed flowers, and spice (I suspect there's a touch of botrytis here) all emerge from the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Barberini Blanc, a medium-bodied, round, exotic, perfumed white. Based on 50% Roussanne, 40% Clairette, and the rest Grenache Blanc, brought up all in new oak, enjoy bottles over the coming 2-4 years or so.
Winery
Complex nose of peach flower, brioche, and oriental pastries. Elegant, rich palate, dominated by citrus marmalade and peach, with a long finish balanced by mineral notes.

Varietal: White Rhone Blend

The Rhone region of France has long been associated with some the finest blended white wines on earth, with centuries of expertise resulting in a wine industry which is based around the careful blending of a few extremely high quality grape varietals. Commonly, wines from this region use Viognier, Rousanne, Marsanne and Grenache Blanc varietals in the production of their superb white wines, with the winemakers skilfully blending different quantities of two or more of these grapes in order to achieve a perfect balance of flavor, acidity and body. The wines which are produced from these excellent varietals are usually highly aromatic, holding summery, bright flavors of peach, pear, honeysuckle and various spices, and are considered to be amongst the most elegant and enjoyable in the world.

Region: Rhone Valley

In southern France, one of the primary wine regions responsible for the production of a fine and varied range of wines is the Rhone Valley. Split into two large sub-regions, this expansive valley benefits from micro-climates which allow the wineries to grow a vast array of fine grape varietals. The northern region is the more limited one in regards to the amount of varietals grown, focusing predominantly on raising excellent quality Syrah, Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier vines for their distinctive and elegant range of wines. The southern region, on the other hand, has a beautifully Mediterranean climate, and is home to dozens of grape varietals which are used to produce white, red and rosé wines, alongside some of the most famous and widely loved blended wines in the world.

Country: France

French winemakers are subjected to several laws and regulations regarding the wines they produce, and how they can be labeled and sold. Such procedures are designed to increase the overall quality of the country's produce, and also to ensure that wines made in each particular region or appellation are of a character and type which is representative of the area. Thankfully for consumers of wine world-wide, the French have a particularly high reputation to uphold, and seem to do so flawlessly. Every year, wineries from all over France produce millions upon millions of bottles of fine wine, making the most of their native grape varieties and the excellent terrain which covers most of the country. From the expensive and exquisite red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, to the white wines and cremants of central France, the French are dedicated to providing the world with wines of the highest quality and most distinctive character.
