93-95 There was no malolactic fermentation and no Muscadelle this year—both unusual for Aile d’Argent. Composed of 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Sémillon (harvested August 30 to September 5), the 2018 Aile d'Argent has 13% alcohol and is a little reticent to begin, offering fragrant notions of lemongrass, freshly chopped ginger and lemon tart with a core of fresh pineapples, white peaches and aniseed. Clear exotic fruit notes with powerful nectarine and white peach, as is often the case with Aile d'Argent. Rich in texture, with lots of depth to the candied citrus and brioche, with lime blossom and slate. Beautiful bitter orange notes add interest through the finish. Drinking Window 2022 - 2040.

A big white with very dense dried apples and peaches. Dried pineapple, too. Full-bodied, rich and flavorful. 45 per cent semillon, the rest sauvignon blanc.

Ripe and juicy in feel, with friendly apricot, quince and orange flavors, backed by subtle bitter almond and ginger cream accents on the finish. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Drink now through 2022.

The 2018 Aile D'Argent Blanc offers good freshness and purity as well as some tropical hints in its tart peach, pineapple, and crushed citrus aromas and flavors. It's beautifully balanced and has a fresh, clean, crisp style ideal for drinking over the coming couple of years.

Varietal: White Bordeaux

The beautifully crafted and carefully blended white wines of the Bordeaux region of France have gone down in history as being amongst the finest in the world. The secret to the success of these wonderfully flavorful, complex and elegant wines is in the selection of particularly high quality grape varietals, with French law dictating that only nine varietals of white grapes can be grown in the region and used in the production of blended white Bordeaux wine. The most common grape varietals used in the blend are Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle varietals, which each add their own flavors and aromas to the wine, balancing out each other and rounding the wine. The other six varietals are seen less and less nowadays, but are still used by certain heritage wineries and are expected to make a comeback.
