Overflowing with elegance and varietal purity, the 2019 Syrah Sequel offers a crystalline and focused nose with elements of dark cherry, baked earth and dusty flowers with a harmonious and floral lift from 30% whole clusters. Full-bodied and clocking in at 15% alcohol on the label, it doesn’t seem as heavy-handed and bold on the palate. The wine demonstrates considerable restraint, exuding elegance and finesse with succulent red fruit and subtly spiced potpourri tones. If you’re looking for a big, beefy Syrah with black peppercorns in your face, this is not it. However, if you're looking for a floral, fresh, elegant style of Syrah, look no further! Musky black currants, dried violets, grilled herbs and mocha can all be found as the 2019 Syrah Sequel smolders up from the glass. This is a textural animal, velvety-smooth with sleek contours and polished ripe black fruits. It leaves a staining of primary concentration and subtle coating of fine tannins that remind the taster of just how young this is today. Blue and purple inner florals slowly fade. The Sequel was fermented using 35% whole clusters followed by refinement for 18 months in 65% new French oak.

The 2019 Syrah Sequel is a big, rich, meaty, powerful beauty offering copious amounts of ripe black fruits as well as ground pepper, chocolate, graphite, and spicy oak all soaring from the glass. It packs a punch, as always, with its ripe, sexy style, yet it shows the cooler, elegant style of the vintage beautifully and is balanced, has ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's going to cruise for 10-12 years in cold cellars.

Aromas of dark berries, ground pepper and leather. Full-bodied with chewy tannins. The palate is rich, but there is lift and good definition within the fruit profile. Nuanced. Black licorice and spice. Best after 2024.

Darkly-hued with cherry and cassis aromas to match, this is a focused Syrah loaded with black fruit, spice and a hint of vanilla across a supple frame. Give it time in the glass to fully reveal the wine's layers of fruit and concentration.

Varietal: Syrah

There are few red wine grape varietals in the world quite as versatile as that of the Shiraz/Syrah vine. These powerful darkly colored grapes are responsible for several wildly popular wines, and are used in the production of still, fortified and sparkling wines, all which carry its magnificent strong flavors very well indeed. This grape varietal is a robust one, easily adaptable to several different climates and terroirs, and yet has a strong ability to express the conditions it is grown in when it ferments and is drank. Most typically, Shiraz/Syrah wines are known for spicy flavors with a big fruity punch, and the fact that they can demonstrate the decisions made by the winemakers in their secondary flavors very clearly.

Region: Washington State

Washington state currently holds host to over six hundred wineries, each producing wines using the many classic grape varietals which flourish in the arid, dry region to the east of the Cascade mountains. Since the Washington wine industry began in the beginning of the 19th century, great efforts have been made to irrigate the semi-desert which makes up much of the state, and the results have been enormously successful in regards to creating an environment in which a wide range of grapevines can flourish. There are certain fine wineries in the wetter western region of Washington, although these make up less than one percent of the region's overall wine production levels. Recent decades have seen red wines becoming increasingly popular in the United States, and many of those produced in Washington are considered to be amongst the country's finest produce.

Oregon, Washington State and New York have all developed sophisticated and technologically advanced wine cultures of their own, and the output of U.S wineries is increasing each year as more and more people are converted to their produce.
