A pungently floral and mineral-laced bouquet of musky peach and pear, spice, yellow flowers and crushed stone lifts up from the 2018 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Riserva Vigna Il Cantico della Figura. It’s round and silky in feel, with ripe orchard fruits contrasted by hints of sour lime and a salty savoriness that comes forward toward the close. This tapers off long and tense, leaving nuances of raw almond and custards to linger. There’s already so much going on here; but don’t be afraid of losing a few bottles in the cellar, as the 2018 can easily excel through medium-term cellaring. ... More details

Winery
A single-vineyard cru bottling from vines planted in 1968 at 500m, facing southeast. Harvest was in late September at yields of 10,000kg/ha (60hl/ha). Fermentation is in concrete vats, with about half the harvest macerated on its skins for two weeks during fermentation. Aged in concrete on the lees for one year followed by two additional years in bottle before release.

On the eastern side of central Italy, close to the Adriatic coast, we find the stunning wine region of Marche, a region associated with wines of character and distinction, and renowned for being one of the oldest and most influential wine regions in the country. Indeed, Marche has been an important home of quality wine production for almost three thousand years, and has been used for vineyard cultivation by everyone from the Romans to the Pheonicians, the Greeks and the Lombards. Marche is primarily considered a white wine region, most closely associated with Trebbiano and Verdicchio grapes. However, the red wine industry in Marche is strong, and features many of Italy's most interesting and characterful red wines, made with beautiful native grape varietals.
