This wine pops with fleshy red fruit, white pepper and woodsy, sap characters. The palate is round and primary-fruit driven, but it hints at depth and complexity yet to come. The juicy berries are woven through with chalky, savory tannins and spicy and sap linger on the finish. Drink now–2030.

Measured use of oak helps to highlight the intrinsic potential for complexity of the Sexton Vineyard. 2020 was a vintage with particularly low yields with small bunches of intense yet fresh fruit. Giant Steps made the best of it, seen here in a wine with lemon, apple and melon, underpinned by a strong mineral backbone, firm acidity and honeyed richness. Good ageing potential.

Pinot Noir translates as 'black pine' in French, and is named as such due to the extremely inky color of the fruits, which hang in bunches the shape of a pine cone. As the Australian passion for locally produced wine continues to develop, wineries have begun experimenting with a wider range of grape varietals, meaning that nowadays it isn't uncommon to find high quality Australian wines made from Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Tempranillo and Viognier, amongst many others.
