This four-hectare cru facing the river spends 12 months on the lees without batonnage in stainless steel tanks, giving intense and fresh apple and lemon characters accompanied by floral scents and subtle spice. Soft and smooth, there's a touch of leesy creaminess underlining orange peel and juicy pineapple, peach and baked apple flavours. White pepper notes emerge on the long finish. ... More details

The 2021 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore Misco offers a minimalist read of the grape with very fresh and focused aromas of white flower, cut grass, freshly squeezed grapefruit and a hint of white pepper. The wine completes a quick 12 months in stainless steel to obtain these very clean results. There is a zesty, electric quality to the finish. Production is 40,000 bottles. This wine was made in 2021, but a Riserva was not made because of the very hot weather.
Winery
• 100% Verdicchio sourced from 3 ha. of the Misco vineyard west of Ancona, 20 miles from Adriatic sea. • Medium-height slopes with South-West facing exposure. • Hand-harvested. • Fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel. • Aged six months on fine lees, plus three months refinement in bottle.

Region: Marche

There are few regions in the world which can boast of a wine industry quite as ancient or influential as that of Marche in Italy. For almost three thousand years, vineyards have been cultivated in the central eastern region of Marche, where the Adriatic winds cool the hot vines, and the mineral rich mountainous soil provides plenty of nutrition, helping the grapes reach full ripeness. Marche is most commonly associated with fine white wines, usually made from the exceedingly high quality Trebbiano and Verdicchio grapes which flourish there. However, wineries in Marche are also adept at making exceptional red wines from Montepulciano and Sangiovese, which are increasingly popular with international wine drinkers, and which express the real quality of the terroir they grow on, and the expertise of the wine makers of Marche.

Country: Italy

It isn't difficult to understand why Italy is famed not just for the quality of its wines, but also for the vast variety and range of characteristics found in the wines there. The terrain of the country varies wildly, from the lush rolling green hills and valley of Tuscany, to the sun drenched rocky coasts of Sicily, the mountainous and alpine regions of the north, and the marshy lowlands of the east. Italy really does have a little bit of everything. Combine this huge range of landscapes with an almost perfect climate for grape cultivation, and you have a country seemingly designed for viticultural excellence. The results speak for themselves, and it is clear to see that wine has become an inseparable part of Italian culture as a result of its abundance and brilliance. Each village, city and region has a local wine perfectly matched with the cuisine of the area, and not an evening passes without the vast majority of Italian families raising a glass of locally sourced wine with pride and pleasure.
