One of the most encouraging qualities of those Chilean wines which made it through to gold and platinum this year, our judges felt, was a new aromatic complexity and a much finer understanding of aromatic maturity in the vineyard than in the past. This complex, subtle and still youthful blend offers an excellent example of this. It's dark black-red, with creamy plum and currant notes as well as a hint of fragrant, cured Havana leaf. On the palate, it is concentrated and long, with admirable freshness lending life and energy to the red and black fruits. Meaty yet supple tannins bring ballast. It's harmonious and accessible now, but there is enough density here to carry it effortlessly through half a decade's maturation. (Best in Show, 2022 World Wine Awards) ... More details

An elegant yet well-structured red, with a wonderful layer of chrysanthemum on display from start to finish, plus vibrant blackberry and plum flavors joined by subtle herb and spice details. Shows nice length around firm, chalky tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Drink now through 2032. 3,500 cases made, 44 cases imported.

Creamy cassis, dark olives and tomato leaf with hints of cedar and incense. A flattering, full-bodied red with creamy oak and fine-grained tannins on the palate, before a long finish with some vanilla and sweet spices. Drink from 2023.

The 2020 Red Blend Gran Reserva Etiqueta Azul is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Syrah, 9% Cabernet Franc and 6% Malbec from Fundo Tarapacá in the Maipo Valley. Aged in varied-use barrels for up to 16 months, it’s an intense purple in color with a nose of cassis, black tea, spice, bay leaf and other subtle flavors. Sugary and voluminous, it delivers active, fine-grained tannins that gently tickle the gums. Balsamic flavors appear toward the end. A well-made red from a warm terroir.
Winery
The wine has in the nose a ripe fruit profile style with fresh and spicy notes and the mouth is soft and with minerals tannis and both things are due to the mediterranean macroclimate with a fresh mesoclimate (high influence from the Maipo river and fresh winds) and finally the soil is volcanic with high content of minerals and high percentage of angular rocks.

Region: Valle Central

Chile's Valle Central has to be one of the oldest 'New World' wine regions on earth, with a viticultural history which stretches all the way back to the 16th century, and the time of the first European settlers in South America. This long stretch of valleys and mountains, which extends between Maipo and Maule, has grown to become one of the most prodigious and productive wine regions on the continent, with a reputation for big, flavourful and characterful wines. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Carmenere all flourish in various part of Valle Central, and the many micro-climates which characterize the region allow wineries to experiment and innovate with their crops. Today, the Chilean wine industry is stronger than ever, and quality has for the first time overtaken quantity as a priority, making it something of a golden age for the country's wine producers.

Country: Chile

Whilst being widely regarded as definitively 'New World' as a wine producing country, Chile has actually been cultivating grapevines for wine production for over five hundred years. The Iberian conquistadors first introduced vines to Chile with which to make sacramental wines, and although these were considerably different in everything from flavor, aroma and character to the wines we associate with Chile today, the country has a long and interesting heritage when it comes to this drink. Chilean wine production as we know it first arose in the country in the mid to late 19th century, when wealthy landowners and industrialists first began planting vineyards as a way of adopting some European class and style. They quickly discovered that the hot climate, sloping mountainsides and oceanic winds provided a perfect terroir for quality wines, and many of these original estates remain today in all their grandeur and beauty, still producing the wines which made the country famous.
