My favorite in the lineup (although these are all brilliant) is the 2020 Vinsobres Rouanne Et Les Crottes, which comes from the middle of the hillside vineyard and more clay and iron soils. Lots of darker, almost blue fruits, violets, smoked herbs, and iron nuances define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, has ultra-fine tannins, and offers a beautiful mix of both richness and elegance. ... A spine of iron anchors this densely packed, brooding red, with baked cherry and salty plum taking center stage, supported by loads of salty mineral energy and toasted apple wood. Time in glass reveals attractive violet and green tobacco notes, which offer a refreshing counterpoint to the dark simmering power. Grenache and Syrah. Best from 2025 through 2035. 700 cases made, 400 cases imported.

Touch of maltiness on the nose, along with some oak-derived spice notes such as star anise. Good weight and intensity to the fruit, a firm acid line travelling through it. Tannins are reassuringly brisk and tense. Ends on fruit, with oak spice throughout. A proudly oaked cuvée and a very good one. No destemming.

Region: Rhone Valley

For over two thousand years, the southern French region of the Rhone Valley has been home to wine-makers and wineries of many different types. The ancient Greeks were the first to discover that a wide range of grape varietals can flourish in the rich soils and micro-climates which typify the region, and little has changed to this day. In the modern age, the Rhone Valley is recognized around the world as the home of excellent quality white, red and rosé wines, as well as some of the most highly respected blended wines on earth. The region is split into two distinctive sub-regions, with the cooler, continental northern sub-region producing primarily Syrah, Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier wines of exquisite quality, and the hotter southern sub-region growing a much wider variety of grapes.

Country: France

Year in, year out, France enjoys its prestigious reputation as the producer of the finest wines in the world. With a wine making history which spans several thousand years and owes its expertise to the Romans, it comes as little surprise that this most highly esteemed of the Old World wine countries continues to impress and enchant both novices and experts to this day. Despite the rise in quality of wines from neighboring European countries, not to mention the New World, the French wine industry continues to boom, with up to eight billion bottles being produced in recent years. However, France prides itself on always putting quality before quantity, and the wide range in fine produce is a testament to the dedication and knowledge of the wineries across the country. Indeed, from rich and complex reds to light and aromatic white wines, French wines are as varied and interesting as they are enjoyable to drink, making this country a firm favorite for wine lovers across the globe.
