The 2015 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda is a polished and tight cru that captures the elegant side of this vintage as well as the brightness of this fruit from vines in sandy soils just north of Monforte d'Alba that always offer more power and structure than most. This is a very open and frank Barolo, seamless and contoured, with lots of deep beauty. The 2015 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda is a polished and tight cru that captures the elegant side of this vintage as well as the brightness of this fruit from vines in sandy soils just north of Monforte d'Alba that always offer more power and structure than most. This is a very open and frank Barolo, seamless and contoured, with lots of deep beauty. The 2015 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda is absolutely gorgeous. Floral, savory and intensely mineral, the 2015 captures all the signatures that make wines from this sector in Monforte so distinctive. Medium in body, focused and chiseled, the 2015 retains terrific energy, the warm, dry summer notwithstanding. There is so much to admire. The 2015 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda is a wine of real class and pedigree.

Power and density are the hallmarks of this vivid red. Cherry, plum, tobacco, tar and iron flavors are buoyed by muscular tannins. All the components are in the right place, so be patient. Best from 2024 through 2047. 300 cases imported.

As well as the celebrated Barolos from Ginestra in Monforte, Conterno Fantino also makes an acclaimed wine from the Castelletto cru. It too is aged in barriques and the oak is very evident, with toasty, meaty aromas dominating at present. It's rich and concentrated in the mouth, with a weighty mid-palate. Although unquestionably powerful and forceful, it's balanced by a long and spicy finish.

However, it is the Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera grapes which are the real stars of this region, and the highly respected wineries which cover much of Piedmont have generations of experience when it comes to processing and aging these grape varietals to produce the superb wines which come out of appellations such as Barolo and Barberesco.
