Champagne Blend

The sparkling wines of Champagne have been revered by wine drinkers for hundreds of years, and even today they maintain their reputation for excellence of flavor and character, and are consistently associated with quality, decadence, and a cause for celebration. Their unique characteristics are partly due to the careful blending of a small number of selected grape varietals, most commonly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. These grapes, blended in fairly equal quantities, give the wines of Champagne their wonderful flavors and aromas, with the Pinot Noir offering length and backbone, and the Chardonnay varietal giving its acidity and dry, biscuity nature. It isn't unusual to sometimes see Champagne labeled as 'blanc de blanc', meaning it is made using only Chardonnay varietal grapes, or 'blanc de noir', which is made solely with Pinot Noir.

Region

Champagne

The beautiful rolling hillsides of the Champagne region of France have, for hundreds of years, been producing many of the world's most famous wines. The sparkling white wines to come out of Champagne's prestigious wineries have conquered the world, and are drank in celebration across the globe. The vast majority of the region is under vine, and grows predominantly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varietals, which are usually blended together by master wine-makers in order to make their recognizable and widely loved produce. The north-easterly region of Champagne has a relatively cool climate, and quite a lot of rainfall, making it far from ideal for ripening grapes. However, the presence of heavily forested areas in the region helps maintain a balanced temperature, and the generations of expertise the wineries hold clearly produces excellent results in spite of the climatic problems.

There’s a linear feel to this creamy Champagne, driven by the racy acidity and fine, energetic mousse. Offers a vivid frame for flavors of macerated raspberry, tangerine peel, light herbs and wet chalk. Meunier and Pinot Noir. Disgorged November 2024. Drink now. 500 cases imported.

Pastry, bran and oat-driven nose and palate. Dry with ripe apple, pear and some honey. Zesty finish. Rather lovely. (Silver) - DWWA 2021

The NV Champagne Rive Droite is 85% Meunier and the rest Pinot Noir. Pouring a pale straw color, the nose is a bit shy on opening and is savory with wet stone. Medium-bodied, the mousse is a bit subtle, but it reveals more ripeness and intensity on the palate, with delicate strawberry and light spice. It has a savory feel through the salty finish, with notes of grapefruit. Drink it over the next several years. Disgorged November 2023.

Winery Notes

Rive Droite is a blend of the terroirs of Damery and Fleury-la-Rivière. Damery is located on the edge of the marl, while Fleury-la-Rivière is located at the bottom of the valley, half-surrounded by the forest. Very sunny area, these terroirs appeal to Meunier & Pinot Noir! The soils are clay-limestone, sandy and marly. Soils of great diversity, where millions of years ago our vines were just a tropical sea, rich in biodiversity. Today, shells and other fossils litter the soils of clayey-sandy areas, offering great Champagne wines and an intense saline content! A fresh, fruity Champagne, supported by the roundness of Meunier and a smooth chew on the palate
