Defined by extended maturation on the lees, Doyard’s 2012 Extra-Brut Grand Cru Les Lumières was disgorged in October 2023 with a dosage of 1.6 grams per liter. Uniting the taut structure and tension of the northeast-facing Chardonnay site in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger with the flesh and perfume of south-facing Pinot Noir from Aÿ-Champagne, complemented by a small contribution from Avize, it is now beginning to exhibit the first nuances of evolution. Soaring from the glass with a bouquet of red apple, peach and dried flowers mingled with toasted nuts and savory inflections, it is full-bodied, powerful and ample, underpinned by ripe yet vibrant acidity and with a chalky grip on the finish. A decidedly gourmand wine, it is entering a particularly compelling phase, and the bottles can be approached with confidence.
