A bright Champagne, with a crystalline feel to the acidity that brings elegant definition to flavors of poached pear, lemon pith, pickled ginger and blanched almond. The satinlike mousse carries the profile through the well-cut, mineral-driven finish. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Drink now through 2031.

Champagne Blend

The sparkling wines of Champagne have been revered by wine drinkers for hundreds of years, and even today they maintain their reputation for excellence of flavor and character, and are consistently associated with quality, decadence, and a cause for celebration. Their unique characteristics are partly due to the careful blending of a small number of selected grape varietals, most commonly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. These grapes, blended in fairly equal quantities, give the wines of Champagne their wonderful flavors and aromas, with the Pinot Noir offering length and backbone, and the Chardonnay varietal giving its acidity and dry, biscuity nature. It isn't unusual to sometimes see Champagne labeled as 'blanc de blanc', meaning it is made using only Chardonnay varietal grapes, or 'blanc de noir', which is made solely with Pinot Noir.

Region

Champagne

The beautiful rolling hillsides of the Champagne region of France have, for hundreds of years, been producing many of the world's most famous wines. The sparkling white wines to come out of Champagne's prestigious wineries have conquered the world, and are drank in celebration across the globe. The vast majority of the region is under vine, and grows predominantly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varietals, which are usually blended together by master wine-makers in order to make their recognizable and widely loved produce. The north-easterly region of Champagne has a relatively cool climate, and quite a lot of rainfall, making it far from ideal for ripening grapes. However, the presence of heavily forested areas in the region helps maintain a balanced temperature, and the generations of expertise the wineries hold clearly produces excellent results in spite of the climatic problems.

Delicious, balanced and well-rounded. Aromas of sliced apples, dried pears and baking spices follow through to a medium body with fresh acidity. Juicy and fruity with a savory finish. A blend of 50% pinot noir, 41% chardonnay and 9% meunier. Drink now.

Currently offers a lot of complexity from lees-ageing and reserve wines for the price, making it an excellent buy. There's a sophisticated, complex note of baked citrus, sourdough bread and fresh nuts over precise stone-fruit Pinot Noir, backed up with plenty of zesty Chardonnay. Layered, persistent and fine, it's a model non-vintage.

Light gold. Lees-accented orchard and citrus fruit aromas are complicated by sweet butter, iodine and smoky minerals. Dry and expansive on the palate, offering lively pear and melon flavors and a refreshingly bitter touch of orange pith. Ample but lithe brut, with very good finishing punch and repeating smoke and pear qualities.

The nonvintage Champagne from this producer is beautifully textured, its white fruits lightly touched by a more steely edge. A fine Champagne to drink now.

Brut Souverain is almost equal parts chardonnay and pinot noir, with five percent pinot meunier; reserve wines account for 30 percent of the blend, enriching it with bready notes and almond-like touches of maturity. The richness gives it a sweet impression, integrated into the tangy notes of cider and mint, then lasting on chalky savor. This would make a rich aperitif, or a partner to thinly sliced roast veal. Winery Notes

“Henriot Brut Souverain offers a rich and diversified aromatic range that gives it a beautiful complexity. Each cru expresses itself in a unique and dynamic manner, not overshadowing the others in the expression. Therefore, it is a perfectly organized “ballet of aromas”: generous and salivating notes of cake with fresh citrus fruits, the exuberance of smoke evolving into pure chalk, not forgetting to mention the basket of stone fruits and red fruits. The aromatic notes of Henriot Brut Souverain have an infinite number of complexities due to its diverse crus. On the palate, it is ample, straightforward, round with a long, persistent freshness.” - Alice Tétienne - Cellar Master of Maison Henriot
