Champagne Blend

The sparkling wines of Champagne have been revered by wine drinkers for hundreds of years, and even today they maintain their reputation for excellence of flavor and character, and are consistently associated with quality, decadence, and a cause for celebration. Their unique characteristics are partly due to the careful blending of a small number of selected grape varietals, most commonly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. These grapes, blended in fairly equal quantities, give the wines of Champagne their wonderful flavors and aromas, with the Pinot Noir offering length and backbone, and the Chardonnay varietal giving its acidity and dry, biscuity nature. It isn't unusual to sometimes see Champagne labeled as 'blanc de blanc', meaning it is made using only Chardonnay varietal grapes, or 'blanc de noir', which is made solely with Pinot Noir.

Region

Champagne

The beautiful rolling hillsides of the Champagne region of France have, for hundreds of years, been producing many of the world's most famous wines. The sparkling white wines to come out of Champagne's prestigious wineries have conquered the world, and are drank in celebration across the globe. The vast majority of the region is under vine, and grows predominantly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varietals, which are usually blended together by master wine-makers in order to make their recognizable and widely loved produce. The north-easterly region of Champagne has a relatively cool climate, and quite a lot of rainfall, making it far from ideal for ripening grapes. However, the presence of heavily forested areas in the region helps maintain a balanced temperature, and the generations of expertise the wineries hold clearly produces excellent results in spite of the climatic problems.

Precise and flavorful with aromas of strawberries, dried raspberries and some mild spices. Medium-bodied, showing fine bubbles and succulent character. Driven and focused, with a persistent finish. A blend of 57% pinot noir, 40% chardonnay and 3% meunier. Drink now.

Light, bright pink. Smoky, floral red berries and blood orange on the fragrant nose. On the palate, intense raspberry and cherry flavors are lifted and braced by zesty acidity and a bright mineral nuance. The smoky note comes back on the finish, which lingers with impressive tenacity and subtle sweetness. This Champagne is hefty enough to work with full-flavored foods but its energy will allow it to be enjoyed by itself.

The latest release of Henriot's NV Brut Rosé has turned out very nicely, wafting from the glass with delicate aromas of nectarine, mandarin and wheat toast. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly fleshy and precise, with racy acids and filigree tannic structure, this is a pretty, fine-boned rosé that will be extremely versatile.

Yeasty aromas of raspberry, cherry and quinine lead to delicious medium weight flavors with noticeably firmer supporting mousse along with more character on the slightly rustic yet refreshing finish that is dry but not austere.

Strawberry cheesecake, sour cherries and apricot meld with herbal tones over fine creamy texture and juicy, bright acidity. Mineral finish. (Silver) - DWWA 2025
