The Rhone Valley of southern France is a particularly fascinating wine region, with a history that stretches back to at least six hundred BCE, when the ancient Greeks first began cultivating vines there. The region itself is split into two distinct sub-regions, with the northern sub-region being famed for its production of exceptional Syrah, Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier wines, packed full of interesting character and expressing the terroir found there. After the great wave of blackberry fruit at the front of the full-bodied palate, the huge, fine tannins kick in, along with darker aromas wrapped around them through the long, very refined finish. A pure grenache from organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Medium to full-bodied and flawlessly balanced, with fine tannins, it has a remarkable sense of elegance and finesse as well as ample richness and length.

One of the more elegant and racy wines at this address this year, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Colombis, crafted exclusively from Grenache Noir planted on safres, calcareous soils and a mix of other soils, displays a delicate, perfumed bouquet of rose, flowers, dark cherries, pepper and herbs. Medium to full-bodied, layered and racy, it's deep and concentrated with velvety tannins with a delicate core of fruit and a long, ethereal finish. Matured in a mix of foudres, concrete tanks and terracotta jars, this is an outstanding wine in the making.

Winery Notes

100% Grenache from three parcels: Colombis with a sandy soil, les Roues with a predominately clay soil, and le Cristia with a sandy soil. The vines average 60 years-old. Whole-cluster fermented and aged in neutral demi-muids for 18 months.
