The single-vineyard red 2019 Finca Dofí comes from the 14 hectares of vines planted across three parajes (lieu-dits) in Gratallops. This year, it's 87% Garnacha, 12% Cariñena and 1% white grapes (Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo. It fermented in oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in large oak barrels (bocoyes and foudres) for 14 months. It's classy, elegant and fresh with very clean aromas and flavors, not lacking concentration or power. There is superb definition and purity here; it has to be the finest and most elegant Dofí to date. It has finer tannins and more elegance than La Baixada this year. The 2018 was fragrant and this has more clout but superb balance. These two vintages have been great for Dofí. I still remember the 2005, hard as nails then and what the wine is now—spherical and velvety. Dofí on a roll... It was bottled in May 2021, and 21,146 bottles were produced. ... More details

Cracked cloves and white pepper with dark fruit and iron. Perfumed and subtle. It’s full-bodied with a vertical layer of very fine tannins that give a creamy and round texture that turns almost powdery. Flavorful finish, yet refined. Give this time to open. Try after 2023.

A rich and minerally red, compact at first, with flavors that expand slowly on the palate. Boasts black raspberry puree and ripe red currant fruit, with accents of orange peel, tarry smoke and iron, dark chocolate and a fragrant skein of ground white pepper and bay leaf. Though concentrated and full-bodied, with muscular and sculpted tannins, this is deftly knit and harmonious overall. Long, fresh finish. Garnacha and Samsó. Best from 2024 through 2034. 2,350 cases made.
Winery
From Alvaro’s original vineyard, Finca Dofí is a blend of Garnacha, Cabernet, and Syrah. Like L’Ermita, Dofí combines power and richness with great breed and finesse. In most Priorat tastings that do not include L’Ermita, Dofí is the clear winner.

Varietal: Grenache

Grenache grapes have long been cultivated in various parts of Europe, and are noted for being particularly successful in arid regions which are both hot and very dry. As such, they are ideal for many New World countries, and have quickly established themselves as one of the most widely grown red wine grape varietals in the world. The Grenache grape is easily identifiable by its purple skin, and tightly hanging bunches which grow quite rigorously in the correct conditions. They are most commonly associated with light bodied wines, with little tannins or acidity, yet quite a high alcohol content. As such, they are very versatile, and are regularly used for both single variety and blended wines, in which their strong and unique features can shine through.
