A bright, cherry-flavored red, with accents of iron, tobacco and tar, this Barbaresco is vibrant and shows excellent tension. Balanced and juicy, with a chalky feel on the long finish. Best from 2024 through 2038.

Sweet strawberries and cherries with some flower and sandalwood character. Medium-bodied with beautifully integrated tannins that run through the center palate. Fresh and vivid on the finish. From organically grown grapes. Needs a year or two to come together, but very pretty. Try after 2022.

Rated 92 - The 2018 Ceretto Barbaresco has very delicate, ripe, red fruits like sun-warmed strawberries, cream and spice aromas. The nose is very pretty but not very intense. This wine is medium-bodied with very fine, supremely elegant tannins which unlike the 2017s are integrated into the body of the wine very harmoniously. On the palate there are light red fruits, semi-ripe strawberry flavors and a little green herb note. It is supremely elegant and refined with a gentle finish and fresh, balancing acidity. - The Wine Independent

The name 'Nebbiolo' means 'fog' in Italian, and there is some debate as to the origin of this unusual name. However, many people claim it has something to do with the milky white dust which covers these dark, round grapes as they begin to reach maturity. Situated in the north-western part of Italy, the region of Piedmont is known worldwide and is highly respected for the quality of the wines produced there. Many of the most successful sub-regions in Piedmont produce many of the world's finest red wines, such as those made from the excellent Nebbiolo grape varietal in areas such as Barolo and Barbaresco. However, the historic wineries which typify this region use a relatively wide variety of grapes, including Dolcetto and Barbera for their red wines, which are typically aged and have a delightful velvety character. Piedmont isn't all about beautifully complex red wines, though, as it is also famed for high quality, elegant sparkling wines, notably the Asti wines made with the white Moscato grape. The region benefits from a range of terroirs which are often well expressed in the sparkling wines, and a wonderfully consistent climate ideal for vineyard cultivation.

This led to several wineries in the beautiful and highly fertile region of Tuscany making the bold move to work outside of the law, which they saw as responsible for the drop in quality in Tuscan wines. They believed that they had the expertise and the generations of experience necessary with which to make truly excellent, world class wines, and set about doing just that. These 'Super Tuscans', as they came to be known, quickly inspired the rest of Italy to improve their produce, and now, Italian wine producers in the twenty-first century are widely recognised to be amongst the best in the world. Regulation and law began to change, and wine drinkers across the globe woke up to the outstanding wines coming out of Italy, which are continuing to improve and impress to this day.
