Lots of fresh roses and dried strawberries. Full-bodied and powerful with lots of tannins, yet they are fine and polished. Excellent length. A classic Barolo with the structure and beautiful freshness you expect for long term aging. Give it at least five to six years to come together. Try after 2028. ... More details

The Ceretto 2019 Barolo Bricco Rocche is made with organic fruit from Castiglione Falletto, one of the villages that performs best, generally speaking, and specifically in this classic vintage. The bouquet is layered and rich with ripe cherry and crème de cassis. There are savory tones of iron ore and grilled herb. It offers a silky mouthfeel with elegant mineral nuances. Overall, this wine shows impeccable precision and beautiful definition. This is one for your cellar.

Bricco Rocche lies at the peak of both Rocche di Castiglione and Villero. East and west expositions create a greatly balanced blend of contrasting hallmarks. Restrained liquorice, red currant and earthy balsamic minerality are to the fore. Full of sucrosity, it's briny and deep with large, sweet tannins not without dusty sternness – to be expected from a Barolo with ambitions for the long haul. Muscular yet bracing.

The 2019 Barolo Bricco Roche is fabulous, and also one of the best wines I have tasted in more than 20 years of visiting. Soaring aromatics and bright, layered fruit all meld together in a Barolo of uncommon elegance. Dried flowers, spice, tobacco and cedar are all wonderfully alive in the glass. This potent, virile Barolo is simply lights out. Elegance and power are rarely well integrated in a young Barolo. The 2019 is a wine of real breadth and resonance. Superb.
Winery
In some respects harmonic and delicate, in others robust and vigorous, it is a wine with complexity, elegance and austerity. Just a few months after bottling it reveals its greatness, which gradually increases as the floral aromas of youth give way to ethereal aromas of spices, chocolate and truffles.

Varietal: Nebbiolo

The dusty purple grapes of the Nebbiolo variety are widely considered to be amongst the finest in the world, and hold many unique characteristics which have secured their place in wine making history. Indeed, almost all of the most respected and sought after red wines of Italy are made using this grape varietal, and it wasn't long before several New World wineries started experimenting with the fruit of this special vine, too. Nebbiolo grapes are renowned for their ability to age beautifully, with their strong and dense tannins mellowing out and becoming more balanced inside the oak. Alongside this, they hold some of the most complex and exciting flavors to be found in any grape, which range from gorgeous notes of black truffle, to aromatic violets and tobacco tones.

Region: Piedmont

n Italy, the region most closely associated with excellent quality red wines and characterful sparkling wines is Piedmont. This alpine region is located in the north-west of the country, and features beautiful foothills of the impressive mountain range which forms the nearby border between Italy, France and Switzerland. Wineries in Piedmont work with the Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera grapes which thrive in the warm, dry summers and cooler autumns, as well as the beautifully expressive Moscato grapes which are used for the sparkling Asti wines the region is famed for. For generations, these wineries have perfected the art of aging their red wines, and blending grape varietals to get the most out of each one, leading to a region known all over the world for the exceptional quality of its produce.

Country: Italy

Italy is recognised as being one of the finest wine producing countries in the world, and it isn't difficult to see why. With a vast amount of land across the country used primarily for vineyard cultivation and wine production, each region of Italy manages to produce a wide range of excellent quality wines, each representative of the region it is produced in. Any lover of Italian wines will be able to tell you of the variety the country produces, from the deliciously astringent and alpine-fresh wines of the northern borders, to the deliciously jammy and fruit-forward wines of the south and the Italian islands. Regions such as Barolo are frequently compared with Bordeaux and Burgundy in France, as their oak aged red wines have all the complexity and earthy, spicy excellence of some of the finest wines in the world, and the sparkling wines of Asti and elsewhere in Italy can easily challenge and often exceed the high standards put forward by Champagne. Thanks to excellent terrain and climatic conditions, Italy has long since proven itself a major player in the world of wines, and long may this dedication to quality and excellence continue.
