At this stage, this wine is all about the tannins that dominate the black fruits. But fruit weight is there, promising good things as the wine matures. Smoky wood and blackberry flavors are set against a solid structure. There is potential here, so let the wine soften and mature. Drink from 2024. ... More details

Rated 91 by James Suckling
A very nicely integrated wine with attractive blue fruit and slate-like, savory elements, offering a complete impression on both nose and palate. Drink or hold.
Wine Advocate
The 2016 De Sales is medium garnet-purple colored and has a savory nose of red and black berries, plums and earth plus a waft of smoked meats. Medium-bodied, the palate is chewy with an earthy character and restrained finish.
Wine Spectator
A light waft of dried herb peeks out from the gentle, rounded core of plum and cherry preserve flavors. Subtle tea and cedar notes cling to the finish, which lingers prettily. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Winery
The wines of Chateau de sales possess the characteristics of their terroir: fruitness, suppleness, roundness, fleshness, good structure on the palate and for these qualities they are amongst the finest wines of the Pomerol appellation.

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

The Bordeaux method of blending quality grape varietals is something which has long been imitated and envied around the world. Whilst there are six Bordeaux grape varietals allowed for the production of red wine in this region of France – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Carménere – the most common and widely used combination involves a careful blend of the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, usually with a small percentage of Petit Verdot to boost the overall flavor and balance things out. This process accentuates the finer points of all these varietals, and takes the astringency of one type whilst rounding it out and mellowing it with the light tannins and fleshiness of another. The results are rarely short of spectacular, and are perfect for oak aging, where the flavorful magic of Bordeaux wine making can really take place, and the complex aromas and characteristics can truly come forward.

Region: Bordeaux

There are few wine regions in the world with a reputation as glowing and well established as that of the Bordeaux, in France. Situated mainly around the Dordogne and Gironde rivers, Bordeaux makes the most of its humid climate and rich, clay and gravel based soils to grow some of the finest examples of red and white grape varietals on earth. Wineries in this region have been in operation for hundreds of years, and have carefully developed the expertise required for the production of carefully balanced and utterly delicious blended red and white wines, alongside some exceptional single variety bottles. Many of the chateaux found in Bordeaux have become household names, due to their prestige and the excellence of their products, grown with love and dedication by heritage wineries in this beautiful and special region.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.
