Gorgeously rich, medium to full intensity in colour with plum fruit on the attack. This has extremely well judged balance between the exuberant fruit that Franc Mayne has as its signature and a more restrained supple frame in its tannins and lift. A really enjoyable wine, one of my favourites at this property. Winemaker Sophie Mage joined in 2018 from Frederic Engerer's Rhône estate Fortboneau. Thomas Duclos new consultant also since last year. A yield of 43hl/ha. Drinking Window 2026 - 2040.

The 2019 Franc-Mayne is made from 100% Merlot harvested between September 19 and 24 at yields of 43 hectoliters per hectare. It is being aged 50% in new oak barrels and 50% in casks, amphorae and one-year-old barrels. Deep garnet-purple in color, it jumps from the glass with gregarious scents of raspberry pie, blackberry preserves and stewed plums with touches of chocolate box, camphor and crushed rocks with a waft of cumin seed. Medium to full-bodied, the palate practically quivers with energy, supported by firm, ripe, rounded tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing long and mineral laced.

The 2019 Franc Mayne is a real head-turner. Ample and full bodied, Franc Mayne brings tons of black cherry/plum fruit, espresso, chocolate and licorice to the fore. The 2019 is sumptuous and exotic, with tons of intensity, with all the elements impeccably put together. It's a terrific Franc Mayne.

A fragrant nose of plums, dark cherries, blackcurrants, violets, bark and spice box. It’s full-bodied with fine tannins. Balanced and velvety with a caressing texture. Plush and layered. 100% merlot. Drink after 2024.

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

The Bordeaux method of blending quality grape varietals is something which has long been imitated and envied around the world. Whilst there are six Bordeaux grape varietals allowed for the production of red wine in this region of France – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Carménere – the most common and widely used combination involves a careful blend of the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, usually with a small percentage of Petit Verdot to boost the overall flavor and balance things out. This process accentuates the finer points of all these varietals, and takes the astringency of one type whilst rounding it out and mellowing it with the light tannins and fleshiness of another. The results are rarely short of spectacular, and are perfect for oak aging, where the flavorful magic of Bordeaux wine making can really take place, and the complex aromas and characteristics can truly come forward.
