Very pretty aromas of crushed berries, such as brambleberries and hints of plums with some wet earth. The palate is full-bodied with layered of ripe yet firm tannins with a surprising amount of energetic acidity. Better in 2024 and onwards, when it will come more together.

Rich and concentrated on the nose - fragranced herbs and darkly fruited. Lovely precision and focus, quite a linear style with flavours that are driven from the start to finish - quite high toned at the moment - sharp red cherries, plums and blackcurrants backed by high acidity and a mineral fresh finish. Lovely components with lots of wet stone salinity giving texture and freshness. Will be more approachable and open in a few years. Drinking Window 2023 - 2035.

From holdings largely located on the continuation of Canon-Fronsac's limestone plateau in the appellation of Fronsac, the 2019 de la Dauphine has turned out nicely, delivering notions of cassis, plums, licorice, spices and raw cocoa, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively palate with powdery tannins and a bright core of fruit.

Young and unevolved, the 2019 Château La Dauphine offers a ripe, powerful bouquet of smoked red and black fruits as well as tobacco leaf, graphite, and lead pencil. It's beautiful on the palate, offering medium-bodied richness, a balanced, layered mouthfeel, some chalky minerality, and a great finish. This classy, balanced, nicely concentrated 2019 will benefit from just a year or two in the cellar (it drinks just fine today with a decant) and will keep for a decade.

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

The Bordeaux region of France consistently enjoys the reputation of being the finest region for wine making in the world. But what is it that makes this area around the Gironde river so special? The secret lies in their ancient and careful blend of no more than six high quality, flavorful and unique grape varietals. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Carménere are all permitted for usage in the production of Bordeaux wines, and the winery carefully considers how to balance the fine points of one varietal against another. Most commonly, Cabernet Sauvignon is used as the main grape varietal, usually with vintners making wines containing upwards of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon grape juices. This varietal lends its big, spicy, fruity flavors and astringent, tannin-heavy character to the mix. Normally, this strong varietal is then tempered and rounded by Merlot, a fleshy, fruity and far lighter bodied grape, containing far fewer tannins and a much brighter flavor The blended wines are normally left to age in oak, where they can continue to work together and produce their wonderful results.
