The 2017 Latour-Martillac Blanc has a lifted linden, Granny Smith apple and nettle scented bouquet that opens nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, fresh and focused with a satisfying sense of tension. It is a subtle Pessac-Léognan Blanc, unfolding in the glass to reveal light nectarine and stone fruit notes towards the finish. This is a strong performance from Latour-Martillac and it comes recommended. ... More details

This wine shines with bright green-plum and herbal flavors. Fruitiness is balanced by a texture that hints at ripeness and richness. Lightly spicy from wood aging, the wine has both a crisp texture and freshness at the end. Drink from 2021.

The Latour Martillac 2017 Blanc sings of warm apples, fresh nectarines and green guava with touches of coriander seed and fresh ginger. The palate is medium-bodied, crisp and intense with a long finish.

A touch of reduction clears to reveal a tight and austere wine that gathers steam through the palate and finishes with bright, juicy and mouthfilling stone fruits.

White peach, lemon peel, shortbread and honeysuckle notes are all in the mix here. A kiss of brioche on the vibrant, racy finish leaves a flattering echo. Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2023. 2,100 cases made, 400 cases imported.

Lovely white peach, citrus rind, and white flower notes all jump from the glass of the 2017 Château Latour-Martillac Blanc. Possessing a rounded, pure, layered style on the palate, with bright acidity and a clean finish, it’s another incredibly high-quality white from the Pessac-Léognan region.

Varietal: White Bordeaux

When it comes to blended white wines, few regions in the world have a reputation quite as famed or respected as that of Bordeaux. The blended white wines of this special region are most commonly made using a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle grape varietals, although there are six other varietals allowed for the inclusion in Bordeaux white wines by French law. However, the other six - Sauvignon Gris, Merlot Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Ondenc and Mauzac – are seen less and less frequently in blended white Bordeaux wines today. The wineries of Bordeaux make the most of their warm, humid climate to ensure that the grapes are harvested when they are beautifully ripened, and have centuries of experience and expertise when it comes to coaxing out their best features, and balancing each others characteristics in the bottle.

Region: Bordeaux

The Bordeaux region of France is possibly the most famous and widely respected wine region in the world. Known primarily for its exceptional blended red wines, made most commonly with Cabernet Sauvigon, Merlot and Petit Verdot grape varietals, it also produces superb dry white wines (both blended and single variety), alongside the highly esteemed sweet wines of Sauternes. All of these wine types use a careful mix of traditional wine-making methods alongside modern techniques, as well as more experimental and unorthodox practices such as turning their grapes over to the noble rot which intensifies the flavors in the sweet wines. Bordeaux benefits greatly from its position amongst wide river basins, and the cooling Atlantic breezes which blow across the rolling vineyards which cover this region.

Country: France

French winemakers are subjected to several laws and regulations regarding the wines they produce, and how they can be labeled and sold. Such procedures are designed to increase the overall quality of the country's produce, and also to ensure that wines made in each particular region or appellation are of a character and type which is representative of the area. Thankfully for consumers of wine world-wide, the French have a particularly high reputation to uphold, and seem to do so flawlessly. Every year, wineries from all over France produce millions upon millions of bottles of fine wine, making the most of their native grape varieties and the excellent terrain which covers most of the country. From the expensive and exquisite red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, to the white wines and cremants of central France, the French are dedicated to providing the world with wines of the highest quality and most distinctive character.
