A crystalline aspect to the nose, real clarity and freshness. The palate is striking, zesty and alive, sharp yet also with density that gives a push-pull from the acidity and succulence. This is characterful, certainly full of life and flavour with a touch of sherbet sourness and honeyed sweetness. Lots to like here, with a directness on the palate and a certain tension despite the range of flavours. This will have fans!

93 Smoky gooseberries, seashell minerality, waxed lemons and sour cream on the nose. The bright and zingy palate shows good width and mineral tension. Saline, focused and long. Drink or hold.

90-93 I'm not sure the 2021 Château Latour-Martillac Blanc matches the 2019, but it's a gorgeous white, nonetheless. Giving up a bright, racy, almost reductive style in its lime, crushed stone, and green citrus aromas and flavors, this medium-bodied, balanced white is very much in the cooler, fresher style of this vintage. If it puts on weight over the course of its élevage, it should check in near the top of this barrel range.

89-91 Aromas of citrus oil, crisp orchard fruit and pastry cream introduce the 2021 Latour Martillac Blanc, a medium-bodied, bright and incisive wine that's performing well this year.

Varietal: White Bordeaux

The beautifully crafted and carefully blended white wines of the Bordeaux region of France have gone down in history as being amongst the finest in the world. The secret to the success of these wonderfully flavorful, complex and elegant wines is in the selection of particularly high quality grape varietals, with French law dictating that only nine varietals of white grapes can be grown in the region and used in the production of blended white Bordeaux wine. The most common grape varietals used in the blend are Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle varietals, which each add their own flavors and aromas to the wine, balancing out each other and rounding the wine. The other six varietals are seen less and less nowadays, but are still used by certain heritage wineries and are expected to make a comeback.

Region: Bordeaux

The Bordeaux region of France is possibly the most famous and widely respected wine region in the world. Known primarily for its exceptional blended red wines, made most commonly with Cabernet Sauvigon, Merlot and Petit Verdot grape varietals, it also produces superb dry white wines (both blended and single variety), alongside the highly esteemed sweet wines of Sauternes. All of these wine types use a careful mix of traditional wine-making methods alongside modern techniques, as well as more experimental and unorthodox practices such as turning their grapes over to the noble rot which intensifies the flavors in the sweet wines. Bordeaux benefits greatly from its position amongst wide river basins, and the cooling Atlantic breezes which blow across the rolling vineyards which cover this region.

Country: France

Year in, year out, France enjoys its prestigious reputation as the producer of the finest wines in the world. With a wine making history which spans several thousand years and owes its expertise to the Romans, it comes as little surprise that this most highly esteemed of the Old World wine countries continues to impress and enchant both novices and experts to this day. Despite the rise in quality of wines from neighboring European countries, not to mention the New World, the French wine industry continues to boom, with up to eight billion bottles being produced in recent years. However, France prides itself on always putting quality before quantity, and the wide range in fine produce is a testament to the dedication and knowledge of the wineries across the country. Indeed, from rich and complex reds to light and aromatic white wines, French wines are as varied and interesting as they are enjoyable to drink, making this country a firm favorite for wine lovers across the globe.
