The 2022 Riesling Eroica is remarkably pretty, opening with an array of crushed stone, smoky sage and lemon zest. It's pleasantly sweet, showing tons of ripe green melon and lime. Salty minerality compliments the palate and adds unexpected depth. Tropical citrus and floral notes resonate as the 2022 finishes with admirable length and freshness.
Winery
Eroica is the result of a special partnership of German and American winemakers to craft an extraordinary Riesling from Washington state grapes. This is more than a blend of two estates, Dr. Loosen from the Mosel and Chateau Ste. Michelle from the Columbia Valley: It`s an intermingling of Old World and New World philosophy and technique. Eroica reflects not only its variety and site, but also its heritage: bold and forward from its Washington roots, elegant and sinewy from German inspiration. Named for Beethoven`s Third Symphony, Eroica is truly a concert of Old World and New World Riesling. Since the late 1990s, this bottling has ranked withthe very best American Rieslings made, and so it does once again. Deep in peachy fruit, lightly floral in tone and underlain by wispy suggestions of minerals, this mannerly wine is at once both rich and restrained. It slight sweetness is that of juicy fruit rather than anything confected or sugary, and its rounded yet balanced style commends it equally to service with cracked crab or as a stand-alone refresher.

Riesling grapes have produced some of the finest wines of the Old World over the past couple of centuries, and are quickly becoming much loved by New World audiences as their influence continues to spread across the globe. They are generally grown and cultivated in colder climates, as is found in their native Germany, where they have the remarkable ability to pick up and express interesting features of their terroir, or the ground on which they are grown. As such, wine enthusiasts generally find Riesling one of the more interesting white grape varietals, as they produce aromas which are highly floral and perfumed alongside both fruit flavors and refreshing notes of stone and alpine water, depending on where they have been grown. Furthermore, Riesling grapes produce a large variety of fine wines, from still to sparkling, sweet to dry, and wineries which work with this grape have long since been experimenting with both frozen and rotten grapes to find out just how versatile and exciting this varietal can be.

Since the Washington wine industry began in the beginning of the 19th century, great efforts have been made to irrigate the semi-desert which makes up much of the state, and the results have been enormously successful in regards to creating an environment in which a wide range of grapevines can flourish. There are certain fine wineries in the wetter western region of Washington, although these make up less than one percent of the region's overall wine production levels. Recent decades have seen red wines becoming increasingly popular in the United States, and many of those produced in Washington are considered to be amongst the country's finest produce.
