93-95 Made from 100% Semillon, the 2020 Suduiraut is being aged for 16 to 20 months in French oak barrels, 50% new. It has 14% alcohol and 137 grams per liter of residual sugar. Pale to medium lemon-gold in color, aromas of pineapple upside-down cake, green mango and peach preserves tumble effortlessly out of the glass, followed by hints of honeycomb, preserved ginger and allspice. The palate is rich and decadent, delivering a seductively oily texture and just enough freshness to lift the long, spicy finish. ... More details

This has a complex nose of smoked almonds, beeswax, lemons, green apples, pears and charred vanilla pods. Sea salt, too. Medium-to full-bodied with vibrant acidity and a textured palate. Exciting saline and mineral character. Terrific new wine that is based on a lovely texture. Drink or hold.

I also loved the 2020 Château Suduiraut Pur Semillon, a 100% Semillon that will also shine on the dinner table. Apple blossom, crushed citrus, and chalky minerality give way to a medium-bodied, bright, refreshing, crisp, yet still concentrated white that has tons of character.

Lively, with a fun mix of nectarine, white peach and Meyer lemon, along with subtle almond and brioche accents that develop on the finish. Lovely. Sémillon. Drink now through 2025. 74 cases made.
Winery
Château Suduiraut PUR SÉMILLON Grand Vin Blanc Sec is made from our prestigious Premier Cru Classé terroir of Sauternes. This wine is produced from a small parcel planted with Semillon vines, on average 55 years old, specifically identified depending on the vintage to reveal the best of this typical grape variety of Sauternes. It offers aromas of fruit and white flowers, with great elegance and smoothness on the palate.

Varietal: Semillon

The Semillon varietal grape has been planted and cultivated in several countries throughout Europe and the New World for a considerable length of time, and was at one point thought to be the most widely planted grape in the world. Indeed, for a period in the 19th century, it made up for over ninety percent of South Africa's wine industry, and was equally prodigious in Australia and elsewhere. Today, its number may have dropped, but it remains and strong and popular grape varietal, loved by wineries for the fact it is hardy and reliable. The golden colored grapes of the Semillon vine are possibly most appreciated when made into various French wines, where they are often aged in oak, a wood it has a particular affinity for.

Region: Bordeaux

Although most commonly associated with their superb blended red wines, the world-famous region of Bordeaux in France is responsible for a relatively wide array of wines, ranging from the sweet and viscous white wines of Sauternes, to the dry and acidic single variety white wines found all over the region. However, it is the red wines which regularly make the wine world's headlines, and have historically been regarded as the finest on earth. The secret to the region's success is the fact that the warm and humid climate, coupled with mineral rich clay and gravel based soils produces grapes of excellent quality. Wineries in this region have spent hundreds of years mastering the art of blending and oak aging in order to get the best results from each grape, and remain the envy of the world to this day.

Country: France

Year in, year out, France enjoys its prestigious reputation as the producer of the finest wines in the world. With a wine making history which spans several thousand years and owes its expertise to the Romans, it comes as little surprise that this most highly esteemed of the Old World wine countries continues to impress and enchant both novices and experts to this day. Despite the rise in quality of wines from neighboring European countries, not to mention the New World, the French wine industry continues to boom, with up to eight billion bottles being produced in recent years. However, France prides itself on always putting quality before quantity, and the wide range in fine produce is a testament to the dedication and knowledge of the wineries across the country. Indeed, from rich and complex reds to light and aromatic white wines, French wines are as varied and interesting as they are enjoyable to drink, making this country a firm favorite for wine lovers across the globe.
