Varietal: White Bordeaux
The beautifully crafted and carefully blended white wines of the Bordeaux region of France have gone down in history as being amongst the finest in the world. The secret to the success of these wonderfully flavorful, complex and elegant wines is in the selection of particularly high quality grape varietals, with French law dictating that only nine varietals of white grapes can be grown in the region and used in the production of blended white Bordeaux wine. The most common grape varietals used in the blend are Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle varietals, which each add their own flavors and aromas to the wine, balancing out each other and rounding the wine. The other six varietals are seen less and less nowadays, but are still used by certain heritage wineries and are expected to make a comeback.

There are few wine regions in the world with a reputation as glowing and well established as that of the Bordeaux, in France. Situated mainly around the Dordogne and Gironde rivers, Bordeaux makes the most of its humid climate and rich, clay and gravel based soils to grow some of the finest examples of red and white grape varietals on earth. This very special area benefits enormously from both fine climatic conditions and superb soils – mainly clay and gravel based – alongside the nutrients and moisture supplied by the ancient Gironde river. Most wineries in Saint Emilion blend Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot varietal grapes for the production of their blended red wines, but unblended bottles are also regularly produced, to extremely high standards. The region is one steeped in history and tradition, and remains one of France's premier wine producing regions recognized worldwide for its quality and excellence.
