92-94 The 2015 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru, the usual assemblage of Les Craipillot and La Perriere, has a perfumed and quite floral nose with well-defined black fruit (blackberry with a touch of cranberry leaf), and it exudes superb tension and sense of energy. The palate is beautifully defined with crisp acidity, lively raspberry and cranberry fruit with wonderful harmony and cohesion towards the elegant finish. Class, pure class—one of the best premier cru Gevrey-Chambertins from the domaine.

Good medium red. Medicinal cherry, licorice and menthol on the youthfully withdrawn nose. Then subtly sweet and sappy on the palate, conveying a juicy character to its black cherry, licorice and violet flavors. A bit tight but not hard, this wine showed a rounder quality with some aeration. Finishes with sneaky rising length. This wine was less expressive 15 months ago from barrel but today its greater depth of flavor is apparent.

A blend of two crus. Cherry cordial nose with some reduction. Medium-bodied, delicate and elegant, with fine-grained tannins. Polished and harmonious, there are no rough edges or excesses, and the finish is long and balanced.

90-92 This is both more elegant but also more restrained with its cool nose of fresh and airy red currant, cherry and lavender scents. The delicious, refined and equally fresh flavors possess an almost delicate minerality before terminating in a well-balanced, focused and appealingly persistent finale. This is very Gevrey in character but one with a certain sophistication.

Pinot Noir translates as 'black pine' in French, and is named as such due to the extremely inky color of the fruits, which hang in bunches the shape of a pine cone.
