The 2014 Lune d'Or from Clos des Lunes has a very attractive bouquet with touches of smoked hazelnut and granite infusing the mineral-driven bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, plenty of Granny Smith apples mixed with Conference pear and a touch of lychee. Then, a surprisingly spicy finish with lemongrass and a hint of Thai fish oil towards the finish. This is very fine.

This marries ripe peach, nectarine and mirabelle plum notes with racy quinine and honeysuckle hints. Shows tangy tension through the finish, but this will evolve into a lush version with time. Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2022. 400 cases made.

Beautiful, dense, ripe, stone fruits, good persistency in a rich, round style. Unusual but full fleshed and with great potential. There’s an uptick in acidity on the finish. Drinking Window 2016 - 2020.

The 2014 Lune d'Or is the top bottling in this range of whites. Soft, textured and inviting, it offers plenty of immediacy and richness, with the Sémillon very much front and center. As good as the 2014 is, it is also heavily marked by oak.

Varietal: White Bordeaux

The blended white wines of the Bordeaux region of France are famed worldwide for their complexity of flavor and superbly balanced characteristics. They are most commonly made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle grapes, although French law dictates that Sauvignon Gris, Merlot Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Ondenc and Mauzac can all also be used in the production of these excellent wines. For centuries, the wineries of this region have been working and perfecting the skills necessarily to get the most flavor and positive characteristics of these grapes, and other wine producing countries in the world will no doubt continue to emulate these world leaders when it comes to selecting and blending said grape varietals.

Region: Bordeaux

The Bordeaux region of France is possibly the most famous and widely respected wine region in the world. Known primarily for its exceptional blended red wines, made most commonly with Cabernet Sauvigon, Merlot and Petit Verdot grape varietals, it also produces superb dry white wines (both blended and single variety), alongside the highly esteemed sweet wines of Sauternes. All of these wine types use a careful mix of traditional wine-making methods alongside modern techniques, as well as more experimental and unorthodox practices such as turning their grapes over to the noble rot which intensifies the flavors in the sweet wines. Bordeaux benefits greatly from its position amongst wide river basins, and the cooling Atlantic breezes which blow across the rolling vineyards which cover this region.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.
