The latest release of Delamotte's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs, the house's emblematic bottling, is once again showing very well, bursting with aromas of citrus zest, freshly baked bread, nougat, crisp stone fruit and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, ample and pillowy, with a fleshy core of fruit, bright acids and a pretty pinpoint mousse, it's a seamless, elegant wine that concludes with a flavorful finish. ... Light yellow. Mineral-tinged peach, melon and pear aromas display excellent clarity, picking up a subtle floral quality with aeration. Supple and seamless on the palate, offering vivid honeydew and pit fruit flavors accented by a vibrant lemon zest quality. Finishes very long, silky and precise, with an echo of juicy melon and strong mineral lift.

Baked-apple, light cream and vanilla aromas with some citrus, too. Full-bodied with candied-citrus and ginger character. Croissant undertones on the finish. Biscuit-like note, too. Drink or hold.

The NV Brut Blanc De Blancs Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger is also terrific. Made from 100% Chardonnay, it has a more chiseled, tight, backward style in its sautéed apple and ripe citrus aromas and flavors. It too has terrific minerality, as well as medium body, a fine, elegant mousse, and a great finish.

6g/L dosage. Grand cru Chardonnay from Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil in roughly equal proportions, aged for a minimum 48 months on lees. The current release is based on the 2015 vintage, and includes 15% reserve wines. Malolactic is used but no oak, in pursuit of a wine that embodies the concentration of Chardonnay style. This is open and approachable, with quite opulent aromas of ripe peach fruit, lemon citrus, white flowers, brioche and a hint of marzipan. Mellow but structured, with purity, complexity and freshness – this would be a perfect match for oysters or other seafood.

As mineral and lime-infused as a Chablis, this vinous Champagne is creamy, rich and toasty, with plenty of acidity to keep it focused. There’s an earthiness to the fruit, edging on root vegetables. Serve it with toasted almonds.

Since it is based on the Côte des Blancs, it is appropriate that one of this producer's most important cuvées is a Blanc de Blancs. This is a stylish Champagne that brings out crisp acidity, fine apple and citrus flavors and a poised final acidity. The bottling is ready to drink.

A crisp blanc de blancs in an aperitif style, with a racy streak of acidity creating a mouthwatering frame for tangerine, glazed apricot, lemon thyme and minerally chalk and smoke notes as they ride the lacy mousse. Drink now. 24,800 cases made, 950 cases imported.

Varietal: Champagne Blend

There are few areas in the world with a reputation quite as famous and respected as that of Champagne in France, and almost every wine region on earth has imitated or has been influenced by the careful process mastered by the wineries of Champagne. However, it is in the grape varietals which thrive in this region where the secrets to the Champagne's success can be found – the acidic, flavorful Chardonnay grapes meeting the characterful Pinot Noir varietal, and coming together to produce something wonderful in the bottle. There are actually seven varietals allowed by French wine law for the production of Champagne wines, all of which are used by wineries to accentuate each others finest points and maintain the reputation of this very special region, the home to some extremely high quality grapes.

Region: Champagne

The beautiful north-easterly region of Champagne in France is famous around the world for the production of the exquisite sparkling white wines which characterize the region. All over the globe, bottles of wine from Champagne are celebrated and enjoyed, and their fame has come about through generations of expertise and experimentation, and a dedication to quality which raises the bar for producers of sparkling wines everywhere. The vast majority of grapes grown in this special region are of the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Petit Meunier varietals, the principle grapes used for the production of Champagne sparkling white wines. The region itself is far cooler than many other important French wine regions, but this hasn't stopped the dozens of wineries in Champagne from making their distinctive and much-loved produce.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
