Deliciously lush, showing ripe apple, quince and spice aromas with a hint of hawthorn. The texture is buttery and rich but not heavy, with plenty of acidity to keep everything in check. The grapes come from 60-year-old vines. Although some plant Pinot here, the elegance and finesse of this wine suggests that either colour can succeed. Wait a few years for this to open up and you will be in for a treat.

An all but imperceptible application of wood can be detected on the more floral-suffused aromas of acacia, lilac and citrus confit nose. The vibrant and super-sleek middleweight flavors possess a sophisticated mouthfeel and excellent concentration before concluding in a stony, bitter lemon-inflected and beautifully persistent finish. This doesn't have the sheer size and weight of the Goutte d'Or but it is noticeably finer.
Winery
Hue: Golden yellow with hints of green. Nose: White blossom – acacia – honeysuckle – yellow fruit – spices – very complex - sexy. Palate: Powerful – dense – very well-balanced. Full of energy – fine minerality - smooth - precise.

green grapes

Varietal: Chardonnay

In the past couple of decades, the sales of wines made with Chardonnay grapes has risen and fallen more than once. For many people, this green skinned grape was marred by a poor reputation for bland and uninteresting wines, a great shame considering the fact that Chardonnay grapes have proven time and time again to be interesting, versatile and full of surprises. Most commonly, fine Chardonnay wines are buttery, smooth and creamy as a result of malolactic fermentation, yet with hints of tropical fruits and orchard fruits such as apples and pears. What is most remarkable about Chardonnay grapes, however, is the fact that unlike many other 'white' grapes, they are exceptionally good at holding the characteristics of their terroir in the bottle. As such, despite their fluctuating reputation, this is one grape varietal which produces constantly surprising, impressive and varied wines.

Region: Burgundy

The wines which come out of the Burgundy region of France are regularly hailed as amongst the finest in the world, with the area now being synonymous with quality red wines of exceptional flavor, character and aroma. However, Burgundy is no newcomer to the world of fine wines, with the earliest recordings of the quality of this region's produce dating back to the 6th century, and archaeological evidence suggesting that vineyards had been cultivated there for over two thousand years. Today, there are dozens of controlled appellations within Burgundy, each producing exceptional wines typical of the region. The whole area benefits greatly from hot summers and mild, long autumnal periods, which, when coupled with the generations of expertise of the wineries in Burgundy, consistently produces superb wines for the world's enjoyment.

Country: France

Year in, year out, France enjoys its prestigious reputation as the producer of the finest wines in the world. With a wine making history which spans several thousand years and owes its expertise to the Romans, it comes as little surprise that this most highly esteemed of the Old World wine countries continues to impress and enchant both novices and experts to this day. Despite the rise in quality of wines from neighboring European countries, not to mention the New World, the French wine industry continues to boom, with up to eight billion bottles being produced in recent years. However, France prides itself on always putting quality before quantity, and the wide range in fine produce is a testament to the dedication and knowledge of the wineries across the country. Indeed, from rich and complex reds to light and aromatic white wines, French wines are as varied and interesting as they are enjoyable to drink, making this country a firm favorite for wine lovers across the globe.

Appellation: Cote De Beaune

Anyone who knows anything about fine white wines, and especially fine Chardonnay wines, will surely tell you that there is nowhere on earth quite as impressive as Cote De Beaune when it comes to this particular grape varietal. This beautiful part of the Cote d'Or has been producing many of the world's finest Chardonnay wines for centuries, and their blend of traditional and modern techniques mean that their reputation has been upheld and maintained in the twenty-first century. However, it isn't all about white wine in Cote De Beaune, as the area also produces vast amounts of characterful and interesting red wines, predominantly made from the Pinot Noir grape. Cote De Beaune Pinot Noir tends to be lighter and fruitier than others, and absolutely delicious.
