From selected old vines on silex soils on the slopes, fermented in stainless steel and oak but aged entirely in Tronçais oak barrels for seven to eight months including the manual stirring of the lees, the 2017 Sancerre La Bourgeoise opens intense and complex but subtle and notably flinty on the elegant and pure nose. On the palate, this is a seriously full-bodied, elegant, fresh and structured Sauvignon Blanc with remarkable grip, finesse and vitality, with fine bitters on the finish. It is very stimulating despite the 14% alcohol. Tasted in Mach 2021. ... More details

A bold Sauvignon Blanc packed with notes of gooseberry, lemon curd and grapefruit that are edged with verbena, ginger and honeysuckle details. Vibrant acidity keeps it focused and gives it power. Drink now through 2026. 2,200 cases made, 400 cases imported.

This wine is now ready to drink. With ripe apple and smooth citrus flavors, it has density and a texture that has now softened. Full, rich and intense, the wine is packed with fruit and acidity.
Winery
This wine with its gun-flint aromas and spicy bouquet is subtly oaked, rich in fruit, full-bodied, well balanced. The richness and intensity of the flavor linger long and harmoniously on the palate. This excellent wine has ongoing maturation potential and will continue to evolve for 10 to 12 years.

Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc

Originating in the Bordeaux region of France, the Sauvignon Blanc grape varietal is today found in many different countries around the world. It is a grape which prefers milder temperatures, as too much exposure to heat dulls the juices within the green skinned fruits, leading to wines which are flat and characterless. As such, it is often found in valley regions, or by the coast where it can benefit from cooling oceanic winds before their characteristic early harvest. Indeed, climate appears to be the main variable in regards to the eventual flavor of Sauvignon Blanc wines, and wineries are constantly experimenting with harvesting dates in order to bring out everything from meadow flavors and grassy notes, to citrus and tropical fruit flavors in the bottle. In general, though, Sauvignon Blanc varietal grapes tend to produce wines which are dry, zesty and crisp in their nature, and extremely refreshing when served chilled.

Region: Loire Valley

Despite being most closely associated with fine white wines made with the excellent Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc varietal grapes which thrive there, the region of the Loire Valley in France also produces several other quality wines. The sub-region of Chinon is highly esteemed for its excellent Cabernet Franc based red wines, packed full of unique character and excellent fruity flavors, and the sparkling crémant wines of the region are adored by people all over the world. The region benefits enormously from the fertile valley it sits in, and the oceanic breezes which blow over the area, cooling the vines and helping them reach full and balanced levels of ripeness. The Loire Valley is an ancient wine region, with a viticultural history which stretches back two thousand years and is stronger than ever today.
