Limpid ruby. Intensely perfumed cherry, black raspberry and violet aromas are sharpened by suggestions of smoky minerals and cracked pepper. In a weighty yet energetic style, offering sharply defined blueberry and bitter cherry flavors that firm up slowly on the back half. Fine-grained tannins lend grip to the finish, which hangs on with impressive, floral-accented persistence.

The 2019 Juliénas Beauvernay mingles aromas of raspberries and cherries with hints of petals and spices. Medium-bodied, lively and perfumed, with bright acids and classical balance, purists will gravitate towards this vintage, whereas readers who appreciate more flesh and muscle will prefer the 2020.

The granite soil of Juliénas adds minerality to this wine's black-cherry flavors. A core of tannins shows that this wine is still young. As the firm structure softens over the next few months, bright fruit will take over. Drink from late 2021.
Winery
• Beauvernay parcel sits at high elevation (450 m) with full southern exposure. • Aged in concrete tank. • The exact etymology of the name Beauvernay is unknown but the Chignard family has uncovered a few possible origins. The historical name for the hill on which this parcel resides is the “Côte de Beauvernay.” At the base of this hill, there is a small river and along the banks you’ll find “Verne” trees, a type of Alder. The hillside was therefore named for the trees at the base and the addition of “beau” is simply a term of endearment-hill with beautiful Alders or hill with beautiful view of Alders.

Region: Burgundy

The beautiful region of Burgundy in France is famously home to some of the most exquisite red wines to be found anywhere on earth, and is most commonly associated with the silky, elegant and flavorful Pinot Noir varietal wines which are commonly produced there. However, the superb and mineral rich soils fed by the Rhone river, and the long hot summers and mild autumns of the region produce a wide variety of fine grapes, and as such, Burgundy produces plenty of different wines which are equally as good as the produce the region is famed for. The region of Burgundy itself has a wine-making history which stretches back at least two thousand years, and as such, it comes as no surprise that the wineries which fill the dozens of controlled appellations of the region rely heavily on traditional methods and techniques when it comes to producing their famous wines.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
