Enology and Viticulture: Sara Perez and Rene Barbier. Production: 125 cases produced Vineyards: The vineyards consist of old vines of more than 50 years, planted in fragmented slate soil with excellent drainage capacity. The vineyards are located at an altitude of between 300 and 610 meters. Vineyard orientation is to the south and west. • Plantation density: 3300 vines per hectare. • Training system: Goblet • Production: 400-600 grams (average 1/2 kilo) per vine. • Grape variety: Mencia 2019 Vintage: The high temperatures, of historic proportions, caused a stop in the plant growth during the month of August. The scarce rainfall marked the harvest, and slowed the development of the vine, giving a more concentrated must and lower yields than average. The overall health of the grapes at the time of harvest was very good. Vinification: Harvest was conducted by hand using 10 kilo cases. A long period of picking the grapes started on the 17th of September and finished on the 10th of October.

Region: Galicia

The northern Spanish region of Galicia is not the first place many people think of when considering Spanish wines. Admittedly, the region does not enjoy the fine weather of La Rioja, or the excellent soils of Catalunya, and the Atlantic Ocean often brings strong winds and heavy rainfall. However, the Galicians have been producing wines in their region for centuries, and wineries which operate there know how to get the most out of their grape varietals in order to bring to the world characterful, flavorful and quintessentially Galician wines. Most of Galicia's produce is blended, taking fine grape varietals such as Albarino, and carefully balancing them against other grapes in order to produce something truly special. Whilst the wine production in Galicia is still relatively small, great efforts are being made to ensure that the world once more rediscovers this special and unique part of Spain, and the wonderful wines they produce.
