From another exciting, rainy but late and, in the end, classic vintage in Graubunden, Martin Donatsch's 2021 Chardonnay Passion displays a bright, citrus-yellow color with lime-green reflections. Still young and dew-fresh on the nose, with precise and coolish white and yellow fruit aromas and lovely reductive, lemon-scented notes of crushed white stones and broken schist and phenols, this is a lush and elegant, finely tannic yet overall charming and flattering Chardonnay with juicy-savory fruit and refreshing saline acidity that creates a serious and well-structured finish. This is a remarkably good second wine to the Unique. It comes highly recommended, if only you could find a bottle. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Malans and at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz in February 2023. ... More details

Light golden yellow, classic Burgundy-style Chardonnay with a fine apricot and honey bouquet, full, mineral palate with spicy wood aromas. Terroir wine with long aging potential. Food Pairing: Good food companion that goes perfectly with fish, seafood, and white meat, as well as pasta and cheese dishes.

Varietal: Chardonnay

Despite having its origins in western France, Chardonnay's immense popularity and flexibility quickly meant that before long, there wasn't a wine producing country in the world which wasn't investing in this fascinating and versatile grape varietal. Today, Chardonnays manage to win fine wine competitions and satisfy supermarket shoppers simultaneously, due to the fact that this grape varietal can take on many characteristics and features of where it is grown and how it is handled. Indeed, this green skinned grape is renowned for not having so much unique flavor within the fruit, but is very sensitive to the features of the terroir it is grown in, as well as to aging As such, it isn't unusual to find bottles of single variety Chardonnay wine described as holding notes of white stone, mountain waters, or other such geological features alongside the more predictable fruit descriptions This makes Chardonnay grape varietal wines an exciting world to delve into – full of surprises, full of delights.
