The 2017 Chardonnay Highland Divide is a sort of super-appellation wine made from a blend of fruit from the estate and Morelli that offers quite a bit of exuberance in both its flavors and textures. Orange peel, honeysuckle, wild flowers and tropical accents all grace this wonderfully inviting Chardonnay from DuMol. loved it.

A quite taut and tightly wound nose with limes and lemons, as well as spice, honey and woody notes. The palate has attractive, crisp acidity cut and a lithe and juicy feel that holds the finish fresh. Drink now.

Also from the Russian River Valley, the 2017 Chardonnay Highland Divide comes from the cooler Green Valley region and a slightly higher elevation site (it’s still in the fog layer though). Lots of citrus, lemon curd, and orange blossom notes as well as some salty minerality emerge from this rich yet racy white. A great example of the vintage with its sweet fruit and bright acidity, it’s balanced, with terrific purity of fruit and a great finish.

Buttery and powerful, featuring ripe apple, pear and tropical fruit flavors that are well-spiced. Hints of sage cream show on the finish, with notes of dried tarragon. Drink now through 2022. 974 cases made.

Varietal: Chardonnay

In the past couple of decades, the sales of wines made with Chardonnay grapes has risen and fallen more than once. For many people, this green skinned grape was marred by a poor reputation for bland and uninteresting wines, a great shame considering the fact that Chardonnay grapes have proven time and time again to be interesting, versatile and full of surprises. Most commonly, fine Chardonnay wines are buttery, smooth and creamy as a result of malolactic fermentation, yet with hints of tropical fruits and orchard fruits such as apples and pears. What is most remarkable about Chardonnay grapes, however, is the fact that unlike many other 'white' grapes, they are exceptionally good at holding the characteristics of their terroir in the bottle. As such, despite their fluctuating reputation, this is one grape varietal which produces constantly surprising, impressive and varied wines.

Often referred to as the 'birthplace of Californian wines', the beautiful and expansive Sonoma Valley has long been seen as something of a vibrant and beating heart within the American wine industry. The 'valley of the moon', as it is affectionately known, benefits enormously from the blazing Californian sunshine it receives throughout the long, hot and dry summers, and exceptionally warm autumns in which the vast array of grape varietals found there ripen. Sonoma Valley is most famous for big, full-bodied and flavorful red wine grapes, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as many excellent white wine grapes. Due to the volcanic soils of the region, fed by thermal springs packed full of minerals, the soil is wonderfully fertile and capable of supporting a wide variety of grape species.
