There's a sensation of a little more ripeness in the 2020 Synthesis Malbec, reflecting a warmer year. There are also oak-related aromas and some dusty tannins that might require some more time in bottle after the wine spent 12 moths in barrel, 15% of them new. 9,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2021.

The 2020 Malbec Synthesis Sophenia from Gualtallary, Uco Valley spent 12 months in 20% new oak. Purple in hue. On the nose, there are liqueur-like aromas of plum jam, hints of caramel and clove. It's potent in the mouth with good tannins and structure. The 2020 has a compressed, ripe, profile.

A plump style, with ample floral, wild berry and plum flavors that fan out midpalate, adding details of orange peel, bergamot and wet stone that linger around firm tannins, with chocolate cordial notes. Drink now through 2028. 2,000 cases made, 200 cases imported.

Deep red color with black notes and violet dyes. Complex and intense aromas of red and black fruits, spicy and mineral notes., combined with aromas of vanilla, tobacco and chocolate. On the palate it shows a full and concentrated body, ripe tannins, complex and velvety with a persistent finish and great elegance. Its fruity and mineral sensations express an elegant long-lasting wine.

Varietal: Malbec

The heavy purple bunches of Malbec grapes found growing in many New and Old World countries produce some extremely varied and distinctive wines. Their thick skins have a high tannin content, which means the wines produced from them are generally full-bodied and deep red in color. Single variety Malbec wines tend to be extremely plummy in their flavor, packing a strong punch and making them ideal for matching with spicy foods. However, because of their high malic acid content and their powerful tannins, many wineries use these grapes for blending with more mellow varietals, producing wonderfully complex wines which age beautifully and produce remarkable flavors and aromas. Because of this, Malbec holds the high position of being one of the few grape varietals used in the production of Bordeaux wines, widely recognized as being the finest wines on earth.

Situated in and around the Andean mountains, the Cuyo region of Argentina has long been associated with the best of the country's wine industry. Including now world famous provinces such as Mendoza and La Rioja, Argentina's Cuyo region has something of an ideal environment for the cultivation of high quality grapes – including Argentina's flagship varietal, the Malbec – which includes the beautiful Desaguadero River and its tributaries. Although the region itself is quite dry and arid, the soils have a remarkably high mineral content, and plenty of iron which gives it the distinctive red color associated with Cuyo. For several decades now, wineries in Cuyo have been booming, as more and more of the global wine audience begin to recognize the region's remarkable potential for rich and flavorful wines.
