Disgorged in February 2019 after 84 months sur lattes, the NV Brut Cuvee de Reserve from Gaston Chiquet is showing well, offering up a classy bouquet yellow orchard fruit, warm biscuits, hazelnuts and peach. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming, it’s deep and layered, with a sweet core of fruit and an ultra-refined mousse. While it’s hard to resist today, such is the wine’s inherent generosity, a few more years on cork will be rewarded with even greater complexity. ... More details

Light gold. Pungent scents of dried pear and peach pit are lifted by a tangy orange zest nuance. Vibrant on the palate, showing pungent blood orange and orchard fruit character and a late jolt of ginger. Finishes clean, nervy and impressively long, with lingering notes of honeysuckle and chalk.

A citrusy, well-cut Champagne, with notes of Meyer lemon peel, pastry cream and toast set on a lively mousse. Spice and mineral accents show on the finish. Disgorged November 2016. Drink now. 100 cases imported.
Winery
Nicolas seeks to make something old-school. It's 60% 2000 and 40% 1999, disgorged 2/08; it seems to unify the best of the two vintages; a mirabelle grappa aroma, green apples and sweated leeks; in effect this is what N.V. used to be before we entered our manic modern aged ”7 years on the lees, anti-varietal”and the exotic earthiness is mindexpanding if you wish to know Champagne. Available summer 2008.

Varietal: Champagne Blend

There are few wine regions of the world with as much influence or fame as that of Champagne in France. The sparkling wines from this special area have long been associated with excellence and magnificent flavors, and much of their success has been down to the careful blending of fine grape varietals in order to achieve spectacular results. Most commonly, Champagne wines use both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varietal grapes in more or less equal measures, often boosted by a small quantity of Pinot Meunier for extra bite. The Chardonnay varietal grapes offer their acidity and flavor to the bottle, and help with the dryness associated with quality in this type of wine. The Pinot Noir, on the other hand, gives strength to the wine, and gives Champagne its distinctive 'length' of character.

Region: Champagne

The beautiful north-easterly region of Champagne in France is famous around the world for the production of the exquisite sparkling white wines which characterize the region. All over the globe, bottles of wine from Champagne are celebrated and enjoyed, and their fame has come about through generations of expertise and experimentation, and a dedication to quality which raises the bar for producers of sparkling wines everywhere. The vast majority of grapes grown in this special region are of the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Petit Meunier varietals, the principle grapes used for the production of Champagne sparkling white wines. The region itself is far cooler than many other important French wine regions, but this hasn't stopped the dozens of wineries in Champagne from making their distinctive and much-loved produce.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.
