The NV 40 Year Old White Port was bottled in 2016 with a bar top cork and 109 grams per liter of residual sugar. The price references a 375 milliliter bottle. This takes the 30 Year Old in our lineup this issue, adds another layer of concentration and just seems super all around. Despite its greater age, it is bright, balanced and lively. Then, of course, it adds all that old-Port complexity. Just a bit of alcohol sneaks in. Overall, this is terrific. If it is not the best value in the white group, it's the best wine. ... More details

Rich and smoky, featuring a core of spicy vanilla, cream and ripe pear flavors that glide across the palate. Shows a lot of pedigree, with crisp acidity and plenty of minerality. Spicy notes fill the rich finish. Drink now. 200 cases imported.

This is a limited quantity release from the Kopke's stock of aged Ports. At 40 years, the wine has become concentrated, intense and almost unbearable in its acidity and spirit. It's a great bottling although much less drinkable than other aged White Ports in their range.

The magnificent city of Porto - the capital of Portugal - is located near the mouth of the beautiful Douro river, in the beating heart of the Douro wine region. The Douro region has been regarded as one of the most important viticultural region of Europe for several centuries, and was the third region to be officially recognized and protected as a wine region, with laws having been passed in the mid 18th century regarding its status. Porto is, of course, most famous for the production of Port wine, an aromatic and slightly viscous tawny colored fortified wine, with a fascinating history of seafaring, experimentation and innovation. The vineyards used in the region for the production of Porto's wines contain up to a hundred different grape varietals, resulting in the wide range of Port wines on offer today.
