The 2016 Thema White is an unoaked and equal blend of Assyrtiko and Sauvignon Blanc, coming in at 13% alcohol. This bottling is always one of my favorites, and it has been mightily consistent. I hate to sound like a broken record, but here we are again. This year is gorgeous, too, perhaps even a bit better than normal. The differences in most years seem relatively small in quality, granting that I do not have them all side by side (an interesting proposition). The Sauvignon Blanc always adds that bit of personality to the Assyrtiko, while the Assyrtiko provides nice concentration. The Sauvignon is very much under control—not terribly green or too grassy. Fresh and lively, this focused wine seems elegant, but it is always gently persistent. It has enough stuffing for food, but it is fun to drink all by itself, too. It should age nicely for a few years, but most will drink it up quickly.
