About Lokoya Vineyard Wines
Lokoya Winery embodies the soul of the mountains and benchlands that flank the Napa Valley. Cabernet Sauvignons from Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Diamond Mountain and the Rutherford Bench express some of Napa Valley's most prestigious vineyards. Winemaker Chris Carpenter creates Lokoya wines in tandem with his vineyard managers. Together, they grow and produce these rare and special wines that seek to showcase the distinctive character of each vineyard. Each Lokoya Winery wine is identified with the terroir of Napa's mountain vineyards. Sparse soils, high elevations, good drainage and the cool climates of the mountains and benches form the backbone for intense Cabernet Sauvignon. Our efforts are to plant Lokoya in the vineyard, choosing sites, lots, and indeed rows of vines, that express the terroir and identity of their location through their wines. The Lokoya Winery name honors the Native American tribe who lived on Mount Veeder in the western mountains of the Napa Valley prior to the arrival of viticulture in the 19th century. Paying tribute to those who farmed these Napa soils before us, Lokoya Cabernets reflect the soils and microclimates of the Napa Valley.
Lokoya Winery 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon, Diamond Mountain
This Cabernet Sauvignon shows the characteristic cherry fruit so typical of the volcanic soils of Diamond Mountain. The wine offers wonderful aromas and flavors of black cherry, dark chocolate and ripe raspberry with slight Asian spice notes. It has supple tannins and depth of fruit marked by lush fruit flavors. There is plenty of mountain fruit intensity that carries through to a mouthwatering finish.
Lokoya Winery 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon, Howell Mountain
Our 2000 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon offers Bordeaux-like herb and earth aromas with the allure of jammy, black fruit aromas. In the mouth the wine possesses black cherry, cassis, and roasted herbs wrapped in immense richness. The wine’s firm tannins, complex and deep flavors, the velvet mouthfeel and lingering finish demonstrate classic Cabernet Sauvignon characteristics.
Lokoya Winery 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon, Mount Veeder
The grapes from this vineyard are half the size of a typical cabernet sauvignon grape grown on the Napa Valley floor, resulting in unparalleled intensity with incredible tannin. The wine shows a great perfume of violets, blackberry and cassis, with flavors of ripe boysenberry/blackberry fruit, and mineral notes. The rich fruit is layered with strong tannin and acid layers for a prominent backbone. The finish is long lasting with fruit, mint and chewy tannins.
