The 2015 Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim is very intense, precise and deep on the nose and is more cool, spicy and earthy than the fruity 2014, displaying some green olive, avocado, tropical fruit and lemon flavors. The 2015 is full-bodied, sweet, finessed and elegant on the palate, provided with fine tannins, a good mineral grip and a stimulating bitterness in the finish. It is complex, finessed and elegant at the same time, very long and alluring. From this warm vintage this is a really stunning, gorgeous and seductive wine and great argument for the field blend. ... The most golden fruits you can imagine just before they begin to turn and decay. A very rich and dense wine that somehow manages to be almost filigree. The sweetness is quite pronounced but not out of place. The finish is already very long, succulent and refined, but when this has to be aged a little bit longer in the bottle to be even more striking. Better from 2020. A complex field blend made from biodynamically grown grapes.

Autumn-colored, amber, thick robe. Spectacular nose of tropical fruits, candied lemon, acacia honey, with the elegance and lightness that is so characteristic of Altenberg. The palate is vibrant, creamy, rich yet with balanced acid, where all components come together perfectly. Varieties and clay, grower and limestone, fruit and pink sandstone, vintage and depth.

Region: Alsace

Alsace is a particularly fascinating region of France when it comes to wine and wine culture. The long, slender Germanic style bottles we often see coming out of Alsatian wineries have become iconic of the region's wine industry, and for centuries, such bottles have been the favorites of the crowned heads of Europe. Riesling and Gewurztraminer have always been the two primary grapes of Alsace, however, there are nine different varietals permitted by French law, most of them being used to make white wine. Alsace produces over a hundred million liters of wine per year, which are exported across the globe and enjoyed by people seeking a fine wine offering something a little different. As such, Alsace is an important global wine producing region, with a character and set of flavors and features which are all its own.

Country: France

Year in, year out, France enjoys its prestigious reputation as the producer of the finest wines in the world. With a wine making history which spans several thousand years and owes its expertise to the Romans, it comes as little surprise that this most highly esteemed of the Old World wine countries continues to impress and enchant both novices and experts to this day. Despite the rise in quality of wines from neighboring European countries, not to mention the New World, the French wine industry continues to boom, with up to eight billion bottles being produced in recent years. However, France prides itself on always putting quality before quantity, and the wide range in fine produce is a testament to the dedication and knowledge of the wineries across the country. Indeed, from rich and complex reds to light and aromatic white wines, French wines are as varied and interesting as they are enjoyable to drink, making this country a firm favorite for wine lovers across the globe.
