The 2018 Schoffweg "Le chemin des brebis" offers a pure, rich and intense, very elegant and concentrated bouquet of crushed limestone rocks and lemon peels. Fresh and elegant, dense and refined yet full-bodied, tight and complex on the palate, this is a very salty Schoffweg with a promising, finely bitter finish. This is still far too tight and young to be served now, even from a big glass, but it's a promising white in the Burgundian style. The cuvée includes a part that was fermented on the mash in clay amphora. 13.9% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2022. ... More details

So much sandalwood, cardamon and allspice, but also delicate papaya and lychee aromas. Astonishingly fresh for this vintage, with a fascinating interplay of mineral saltiness, spice and exotic fruit, but without any sense of drama. Rolls gracefully over the palate, the touch of grapefruit-pith bitterness setting an accent at the long finish. A field blend of traditional Alsace varieties. From organically grown grapes with Ecocert certification. Drink or hold.
Winery

Region: Alsace

For lovers of fine white and rosé wines, there are few regions in the world quite as good as France's Alsace. The region itself is a particularly fascinating one, as it has long been fought over by France and Germany, resulting in a culture and wine industry which is something of a blend of the two countries. Wines in Alsace are almost all white, although there are more wineries now producing the pale red or pinkish Pinot Noir wines which the region is also renowned for. Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Muscat are also grown in huge quantities across the Alsace, and most of the region's wines are made from these varietals. Overall, Alsace is a highly productive region of France, with over a hundred million liters of wine being produced annually from the nine permitted grape varietals the region grows.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
