The 2006 Extra Brut Premier Cru Millésime Terre is pure, fine and intense on the nose, with sweet cherry flavors and a spicy-mineral background. Rich, round and elegant, this is a very fruity-elegant and balanced vintage Champagne with a (very discrete) touch of Jura/Jerez oxidation on the finish. You get nice finesse and elegance here. The finish is long, complex, pretty intense and salty. Fascinating. This is a blend of 30% Chardonnay and 70% Pinot Noir that was disgorged in July 2017 with a dosage of four grams per liter. ... Sleek and well-knit, this exudes a lovely nose of ripe fruit and roasted nut, layered with flavors of poached apricot, pickled ginger and crystalized honey on the finely detailed palate. A pronounced streak of salinity and racy acidity define the lingering finish. Disgorged July 2017. Drink now through 2028. 125 cases imported.

The 2006 Extra Brut Millésime is another super-expressive wine in this range. Racy and bold in feel, the 2006 shows elements of the ripeness of 2002 with the energy of 2004, but it also needs more time in bottle to be at its best. Lemon confit, white flowers, spice, pastry and butter all develop in the glass. I would give the 2006 another year or so in bottle, but it won't need much more than that. Disgorged: 2017.

The complex nose lets aromas of red and blackcurrant and cherry burst out, mixed with a delicate and sensual oakiness and underpinned by vanilla, cinnamon and pear. Attractive scents of citrus (lemon, mandarin), peach and roasted apricot close this superb olfactory experience. The attack on the palate is pure and of rare density, punctuated by a savoury minerality. It is then the turn of the Chardonnay to reveal its palette of buttery brioche and toast notes, which slip over into coffee and chocolate. Its smooth and creamy effervescence turn this Champagne into a great wine.

Varietal: Champagne Blend

The sparkling wines of Champagne have been revered by wine drinkers for hundreds of years, and even today they maintain their reputation for excellence of flavor and character, and are consistently associated with quality, decadence, and a cause for celebration. Their unique characteristics are partly due to the careful blending of a small number of selected grape varietals, most commonly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. These grapes, blended in fairly equal quantities, give the wines of Champagne their wonderful flavors and aromas, with the Pinot Noir offering length and backbone, and the Chardonnay varietal giving its acidity and dry, biscuity nature. It isn't unusual to sometimes see Champagne labeled as 'blanc de blanc', meaning it is made using only Chardonnay varietal grapes, or 'blanc de noir', which is made solely with Pinot Noir.

Region: Champagne

The beautiful north-easterly region of Champagne in France is famous around the world for the production of the exquisite sparkling white wines which characterize the region. All over the globe, bottles of wine from Champagne are celebrated and enjoyed, and their fame has come about through generations of expertise and experimentation, and a dedication to quality which raises the bar for producers of sparkling wines everywhere. The vast majority of grapes grown in this special region are of the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Petit Meunier varietals, the principle grapes used for the production of Champagne sparkling white wines. The region itself is far cooler than many other important French wine regions, but this hasn't stopped the dozens of wineries in Champagne from making their distinctive and much-loved produce.

Country: France

Year in, year out, France enjoys its prestigious reputation as the producer of the finest wines in the world. With a wine making history which spans several thousand years and owes its expertise to the Romans, it comes as little surprise that this most highly esteemed of the Old World wine countries continues to impress and enchant both novices and experts to this day. Despite the rise in quality of wines from neighboring European countries, not to mention the New World, the French wine industry continues to boom, with up to eight billion bottles being produced in recent years. However, France prides itself on always putting quality before quantity, and the wide range in fine produce is a testament to the dedication and knowledge of the wineries across the country. Indeed, from rich and complex reds to light and aromatic white wines, French wines are as varied and interesting as they are enjoyable to drink, making this country a firm favorite for wine lovers across the globe.
