This likely auction bottling was sourced from recently acquired old vines that expanded Schlossgut Diel’s share in this Einzellage. Quince jelly, mirabelle preserves and very flowery honey dominate proceedings that combine lusciousness and creaminess of texture with welcome brightness of fresh lemon. Bittersweet impingements of candied lemon rind, along with mouthwatering savor of browned butter and mineral salts, make for superb diversity as well irresistibility. The golden-orange colored 2015 Burg Layer Johannisberg Trockenbeerenauslese is from a steep vineyard with weathered soils and comes along as a rich, very sweet and intense but also piquant TBA with racy acidity. The finish is long, lovely and aromatic. Keep this wine for a decade or more.
