The 2016 Corvina Cresasso is spicy and floral, with sugar-dusted cherries and red currant giving way to dried roses. This is undeniably elegant and opulent in feel, with ultra-ripe red and blue fruits motivated by juicy acidity. It tapers off lightly structured and saturating, drenching with concentration, yet with the acidity to keep the mouth watering. This is some serious juice, yet it's powerful and lightly structured.

A fragrant nose of crushed dark raspberries, ripe blackcurrants, dark chocolate crust, cherry liquor and hints of dates and sweet spices. Full-bodied with velvety tannins, creating a smooth, flavorful palate that’s full of cocoa powder. Nice twist of bittersweet character to the finish. Drink or hold.

Features fig cake, black cherry coulis and date fruit flavors that are sweet and juicy, enlivened by lively orange peel acidity and accents of pomegranate puree, violet and wild herbs. Light, taut tannins give this good definition, and rich hints of mocha, licorice and earth show on the finish. Drink now through 2027. 1,850 cases made, 50 cases imported.

Cresasso has a rich garnet color which sticks to the rim. On the nose, one senses red fruits such as tart black cherries, plums, and tobacco—all characteristic of the Corvina grape. On the palate the wine is soft and elegant, with Zenato's trademark balance.

Varietal: Corvina Blend

Corvina grapes are most commonly associated with the Veneto region of Italy, where they have been grown successfully for centuries, and are a vital component of the region's viticultural identity. The Corvina varietal is famed around the world for its inclusion in such fine wines as Amarone and Valpolicella, where it is blended with small quantities of other grape varietals to produce wines of exceptional character and balance. The grapes themselves have a naturally high level of acidity, which often results in an aftertaste of bitter almonds. However, this bitterness is quite a sought for feature of this varietal, as it balances beautifully with the sour cherry notes also associated with the grape. Corvina grapes have a wonderfully potential for aging, and this process mellows the bitterness and acids present in the fruit, resulting in soft, complex and highly admired wines.

Italy remains very much a 'land of wines', and one could not imagine this country, its landscape and culture, without it.
