The NV 10 Year Old Tawny was bottled in 2016 with a bar-top cork and 106 grams per liter of residual sugar. Medium in body--well, it's a 10, not a 40--this has fine freshness and perfect balance. The juicy, delicious finish is irresistible and has more intensity of flavor than most 10 Year Olds. Although I tend to look first for freshness in this category, it is also nice to find some complexity and intensity of flavor, too, as here. This is nicely done. This showed way better at 58 degrees Fahrenheit than it did at 70. ... More details

The NV 10 Year Tawny from Quinta do Noval sports a medium ruby color as well as rich, medium to full-bodied notes of figs, white raisins, burnt caramel and a kiss of smoke. It’s ripe, nicely balanced, and stays light and drinkable, with tons of character. This cuvée is made from Tinta Toriz, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca brought up all in oak.

Warm aromas of coffee, red fruit and cocoa, followed by soft yet rich and spicy flavours of nutty red fruit, flowing onto a gently spirity finish.

This dry, balanced aged tawny is both fruity and showing good aging characters. Red fruits are cut with acidity and shaped by the old wood and spice flavors. It has a delicious, ripe aftertaste.

Elegant in style, with red tea, bing cherry and cinnamon notes backed by a lightly flattering hint of sweetness on the finish. Drink now.
Winery
The 10 year old Tawny has a deliciously crisp, fresh style with intense fruit. The 10 Year Old Tawny port shows an outstanding intensity of color, complexity, concentration, and depth of flavor. A favorite of restaurateurs because it remains fresh for weeks after opening, the Noval Tawny Port has beautiful complexity with vibrant young fruit that blends with the attractive and characteristic dry fruit and nut aromas. It’s rich and smooth on the palate, with an elegant structure and long finish.

Region: Porto

The city and region of Porto in Portugal has long been regarded as one of the most important wine producing areas on earth, and home to many of the world's most distinctive and characterful wines and fortified wines. So important was it, in the 18th century, it became part of the third ever protected wine region, following one in Hungary, and one in Italy. The wineries of Porto have generations of experience and expertise when it comes to working their land, and the fertile valley sides in the Douro region where Porto is found offers plenty of opportunities for growing a wide range of grape varietals. Most commonly, Porto wineries cultivate Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cão, Tempranillo, Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional grapes, as these are the primary varietals used in the production of Porto's famous Port wines.

Country: Portugal

Most of us are quick to associate Portugal primarily with the excellent fortified wines which come out of the Porto area, but there is much more to Portuguese viticulture than just this. Perhaps the most popular still wines the country produces are the varieties from the Vinho Verde region, which uses grapes that do not achieve high doses of sugar, meaning the wines are at their best when young and full of natural, springy fruit flavors The wines of the Douro region have undergone many transformations in their flavor and character over the centuries; once regarded as a bitter wine, the exporters experimented with fortifying the wine with brandy. After several centuries, vintners found a balance in the modern age which is at once reminiscent of Port wine, yet with the structure and character closer to other fine Portuguese wines. Thanks to the appellation system of Portugal and the strict laws governing wine production, Portuguese wines continue to maintain their reputation for quality and the distinctive characteristics they carry.
