From the 1.6ha owned by the domaine over several plots throughout the appellation, this is a blend that has produced a sublime result. 80% of the grapes are fermented as whole clusters and the wine is aged in 30% new casks (9 out of 30). There are super-ripe dark fruit aromas of great complexity, with savoury and mineral notes on the attack, allied with a marvellous depth on the palate, with the length driven by a good bit of tannin. ... 94-96 The 2019 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of raspberries, cherries, warm spices, rose petals, peonies and violets. Full-bodied, muscular and concentrated, it's rich and structured, with bright acids and prodigious reserves of powdery tannin. Broad-shouldered and powerful, it will—as usual—require patience.

Ripe and exuberantly floral aromas possess intricate layering and plenty of spice along with a suggestion of earth. Once again there is a lovely texture to the succulent, round and sappy big-bodied flavors that coat the palate and particularly so on the moderately austere finale that displays simply superb length. This very powerful and impeccably well-balanced effort is shaped by dense but notably fine-grained tannins that should enable this to see its 30th birthday in fine fettle. In short, this is stunningly good.

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir translates as 'black pine' in French, and is named as such due to the extremely inky color of the fruits, which hang in bunches the shape of a pine cone. Wineries often struggle with Pinot Noir vines, as more than most red wine grape varietals, they fail in hot temperatures and are rather susceptible to various diseases which can be disastrous when hoping for a late harvest. Thanks to new technologies and methods for avoiding such problems, however, the Pinot Noir grape varietal has spread across the world to almost every major wine producing country. Why? Quite simply because this is considered to be one of the finest grape varietals one can cultivate, due to the fact that it can be used to produce a wide range of excellent wines full of interesting, fresh and fascinating flavors Their thin skins result in a fairly light-bodied wine, and the juices carry beautiful notes of summer fruits, currants and berries, and many, many more.

Region: Burgundy

The wines which come out of the Burgundy region of France are regularly hailed as amongst the finest in the world, with the area now being synonymous with quality red wines of exceptional flavor, character and aroma. However, Burgundy is no newcomer to the world of fine wines, with the earliest recordings of the quality of this region's produce dating back to the 6th century, and archaeological evidence suggesting that vineyards had been cultivated there for over two thousand years. Today, there are dozens of controlled appellations within Burgundy, each producing exceptional wines typical of the region. The whole area benefits greatly from hot summers and mild, long autumnal periods, which, when coupled with the generations of expertise of the wineries in Burgundy, consistently produces superb wines for the world's enjoyment.

This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines.
