The 2018 Bricco Rocche has a dark and complex nose with nuances of sour cherries, cumin, incense and a hint of dark spice. It begins ample and fruit-forward, then turns increasingly tannic and mineral-driven. Perhaps it lacks the mid-palate concentration of the best vintages of Bricco Rocche, but will drink extremely well for the next handful of years.

Made with certified organic fruit, the Ceretto 2018 Barolo Bricco Rocche shows thin texture and a mild personality with subtle aromas of dried rose, cassis and crushed stone. This vintage is more subdued for sure, but it's silky and accessible as well. Compared to past editions, this wine shows a shy set of aromas. I’ve opened the drinking window to allow for more time for its evolution.

A bright red, with a silky texture, an elegant profile and floral, wild berry and anise flavors. Charming and balanced, this gets lift from the vibrant acidity, while a mineral element and refined tannins grace the finish. Best from 2025 through 2043.

The 2018 Barolo Bricco Rocche possesses terrific depth and creaminess, especially within the context of this small-scaled vintage. Silky, aromatic and so expressive, the Bricco Rocche fills out beautifully with a bit of time in the glass. There's terrific presence and class here.

Rated 93 - Bricco Rocche, the smallest Barolo MGA or single cru, is right in the middle of Castiglione Falletto and is owned entirely by the Ceretto family. This 2018 Ceretto Barolo Bricco Rocche has little warm, strawberry, spice, and pepper notes on the nose. On the palate there is a lovely texture and weight. The wine is super-smooth, medium-bodied and with a very elegant quality to the tannins, despite having some grip. There is also a green herb and green note to the fruit, a characteristic of the fresher 2018 vintage. Wait one to two years then drink for 15 years plus. - The Wine Independent

Oak, toasted nut and underbrush aromas form the nose. The firmly structured palate is more expressive, offering ripe red berry, hazelnut and a dollop of vanilla. Tightly knit, close-grained tannins grip the close. Drink 2026–2033.

Varietal: Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is not necessarily a particularly easy grape to cultivate. Indeed, its very late ripening time often means that yield is very low, and they are also quite susceptible to various diseases and forms of rot. However, in their native Italy and in many other countries around the world, wineries persevere with this varietal due to the fact that few other grapes can produce wines as wonderful, complex and flavorful as those made with the Nebbiolo grape. These grapes offer a beautifully pale red juice, packed full of intense flavors such as truffle, violet and prune, making them a real treat for serious wine drinkers looking for a sensory experience not to be forgotten. They are also renowned for their affinity for aging, which allows their strong tannins to mellow and compliment their stunning flavor.

The wineries which cover much of Piedmont have, over many generations, mastered how to make the most of the Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera grapes which thrive here, and nowadays are beginning to experimenting with many imported varietals to increase the region's range and meet international demand.
