Lovely aromas, nice freshness with some menthol/eucalyptus notes. Great texture straight away and plump density of fruit. This feels polished and well crafted with precise fruit definition, mouthwatering acidity and also a touch of creaminess. Such a great emphasis on cooling menthol minerality here, the freshly picked mint/eucalyptus flavour lingers long on the tongue, beyond the ripe blackcurrants and black cherries with smooth, rounded and supple tannins. Gloriously rich, deep with supreme freshness and drinkability. Lovely.

With seven centuries of history behind it, this Lurton family estate has produced a solid wine, firm with dark, smoky tannins. Black-currant fruits and acidity counterpoint to the structure. The wine needs aging, ready to drink from 2026. (Cellar Selection)

The 2019 La Louvière has an impressive bouquet of blackberry, raspberry, cedar and sandalwood scents, full of gusto and fine definition. The oak here is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied, crisp and taut, with fine tannins and a focused, fresh, classically styled finish that shows finesse and persistence. Superb.

Bottled under Diam 30, the 2019 La Louvière delivers a rich bouquet of ripe black fruits, charcoal, forest floor, black truffle and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, broad and enveloping, it's a fleshy, layered wine with an ample core of fruit, lively acids and plenty of ripe tannin that asserts itself on the finish. With a few years' bottle age, this will make for dramatic drinking.

The 2019 Château La Louvière checks in as 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot that will spend 12 months in barrel. Pretty blackcurrants, fruitcake, spice, and chocolate notes emerge from the glass. This medium-bodied, textured Graves has some firm, present tannins, good mid-palate depth, and solid length on the finish.

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

The blended red wines of Bordeaux have gone down in history as the finest wines every produced, with collectors and many of the general public still eagerly anticipating the wineries of this region's new releases to this day. The secret to Bordeaux's monumental success has been their careful blending of high quality grape varietals, controlled and protected by French law. In Bordeaux, wineries can only produce red wines using a blend of two or more of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec or Carménere grape varietals, with the latter two becoming less and less commonly seen on bottles. The vast majority of Bordeaux red wines use Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varietals, boosted by a little Petit Verdot. These three grapes compliment each other beautifully as they age in oak, rounded out their tannins and the high astringency of the Sauvignon, and resulting in wonderfully complex flavors and aromas.

Region: Bordeaux

Although most commonly associated with their superb blended red wines, the world-famous region of Bordeaux in France is responsible for a relatively wide array of wines, ranging from the sweet and viscous white wines of Sauternes, to the dry and acidic single variety white wines found all over the region. However, it is the red wines which regularly make the wine world's headlines, and have historically been regarded as the finest on earth. The secret to the region's success is the fact that the warm and humid climate, coupled with mineral rich clay and gravel based soils produces grapes of excellent quality. Wineries in this region have spent hundreds of years mastering the art of blending and oak aging in order to get the best results from each grape, and remain the envy of the world to this day.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
