91-93 The 2021 Carbonnieux is gorgeous. It has more than enough mid-palate depth and overall richness to fill out its frame. Dark red cherry, plum, cinnamon, spice and incense all flesh out with a bit of aeration. Pliant and yet also nicely structured, the 2021 is a winner. I loved it. ... More details

Vibrant fruits of plums and morello cherries with a touch of iodine, spices and mineral. Crunchy and medium-bodied on the palate with plenty of fresh, fine-grained tannins. Not a wine of excellent depth but the freshness and approachability are applaudable. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. Drink now through to 2030.

88-90 The 2021 Château Carbonnieux has a modern vibe, with plenty of new oak on the nose, yet it brings solid depth of fruit, medium-bodied richness, fine tannins, and solid overall balance. It's certainly nicely made and might end up being an outstanding wine, and it should absorb some of its oak with just short-term aging.
Decanter
Sweet strawberry and red cherry fruit on the nose with some bramble notes. This lacks a little power and depth but offers gentle cooling blue fruit with a nice juicy acidity - blueberries, black cherries and blackcurrants with fine tannins and a persistent soft grip that carries the flavours from start to finish. It's well balanced with a light frame and you get the coolness of the vintage through with the minerality on show. 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend.
Winery
The vinification, both modern and traditional of red wines, is carried out by slow and gentle extraction in order to preserve the roundness of the wine and the mineral features of the soil. The tannins are well balanced and silky in harmony with red fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry…) and reveal toasted notes from ageing in the finest quality French oak barrels. Only the very best batches tasted are selected for the final blending of Château Carbonnieux red wines. Wine and food pairing : all grilled, roast, or stewed meat, swordfish, tuna fish, cheese, chocolate desserts…

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

Bordeaux red wines are widely regarded as being the finest red wines produced anywhere in the world, regularly topping awards lists and generally being amongst the most sought after and collectable bottles available. The secret to their success and their particularly memorable and refined characteristics is the fact that Bordeaux red wines are made from a blend of grape varietals, most commonly from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, helped by a touch of Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc. The other two key Bordeaux grape varietals which are also used in the blend of many of these excellent wines are Malbec and Carménere, although it is becoming less common to see these in use today. The art of blending primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varietals is something which has been much imitated around the world, as it produces a wonderfully balanced, rounded yet massively complex and flavorful wine, ideal for oak aging The acid and tannin levels in each of these grape varietals is balanced and tempered by the blend, and generations of expertise has gone into the careful selection and cultivation of such quality grapes.

Region: Bordeaux

There are few wine regions in the world with a reputation as glowing and well established as that of the Bordeaux, in France. Situated mainly around the Dordogne and Gironde rivers, Bordeaux makes the most of its humid climate and rich, clay and gravel based soils to grow some of the finest examples of red and white grape varietals on earth. Wineries in this region have been in operation for hundreds of years, and have carefully developed the expertise required for the production of carefully balanced and utterly delicious blended red and white wines, alongside some exceptional single variety bottles. Many of the chateaux found in Bordeaux have become household names, due to their prestige and the excellence of their products, grown with love and dedication by heritage wineries in this beautiful and special region.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
