Regularly described as being the grape varietal responsible for producing the world's most romantic wines, Pinot Noir has long been associated with elegance and a broad range of flavors The name means 'black pine' in French, and this is due to the fact that the fruit of this particular varietal is especially dark in color, and hangs in a conical shape, like that of a pine cone. This is because it is especially susceptible to various forms of mold and mildew, and thrives best in steady, cooler climates. Coming from Balletto’s coldest site, which was planted in 2008 at 300-200 feet elevation right off Bodega Highway, the 2022 Pinot Noir Sexton Hill Vineyard is a riper magenta ruby hue and is fragrant with deeper aromas of fresh black cherries and black raspberries and has a more savory feel, with a hint of umami spices, tea leaf and violets. Medium-bodied, it’s mouth-filling, with ripe tannins, and medium to full-bodied retains good freshness and a long finish. It’s appealing now but is going to improve with another year in the bottle. Drink 2025-2035.
